Rocco Gambuzza

Rocco Gambuzza passed away peacefully on January 16, 2026. He was born in Pozzallo, Sicily on March 8, 1939, son of late Giovanni and Maria Gambuzza. Rocco immigrated to the United States, where he met and married his beloved wife, Giovanna Amato, on July 29, 1967. Together, they raised two beautiful daughters, Maria and Caterina.

Rocco began his working life as a barber in the Italian Merchant Marines. He later entered into several business ventures alongside his brothers-in-law, which led to the opening of his first pizzeria, Pizza Den, in Flushing, followed by another Pizza Den in Yonkers with his son-in-law. In 1999, Rocco suffered a major stroke; however, his strength, resilience, and determination never wavered. He faced life’s challenges and health issues with courage and perseverance. He was a fighter until the very end.

A devoted husband, loving father, cherished nonno, brother-in-law and uncle, he was deeply committed to his family. He found his greatest joy in time spent with loved ones, celebrating life’s milestones and creating lasting memories, especially with his grandchildren and precious great granddaughter.

In addition to his wife, Giovanna, he is survived by his two daughters, Maria (John) Mazzotta, and Caterina (Christopher) Hertler; his three beloved grandchildren, Jessica (Paul), Stefanie (Brendan), and Alexander; his precious great granddaughter, Elena; his sister, Angelina Adamo; two brothers-in-law; five sisters-in-law; and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, all of whom he held dear.

Visitation services will be held at Frederick Funeral Home, located at 192-15 Northern Boulevard, Flushing, NY. The visitation is scheduled for January 20, 2026, from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm and again from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, January 21st, at 9:45 am from St. Kevin Roman Catholic Church, 4521 194th Street, Flushing, NY. Entombment will follow at Resurrection Mausoleum at St. John Cemetery in Middle Village, NY.
