

Arlene Shulman, aged 90, died on Sunday, April 27th after a long illness. She was a true New Yorker — born in the Bronx, graduate of City College and Columbia Teachers’ College, and a NYC public elementary school teacher. Arlene was gifted with a beautiful voice, trained as an opera singer, and performed with the Amato Opera Company. Most of her life was devoted to family — wife to Abraham and mother to two daughters, one of whom, Rachel, predeceased her. Arlene and Abe were a united team throughout 68 years of marriage. She also served in many leadership positions in Jewish organizations including chairwoman for the Queens region of Hadassah and for the UJA Federation. She is survived by Abraham, daughter Melanie, and three grandchildren, Olivia and Jason Goldring, and Julia Feigen. All who knew her will remember her warmth, intelligence and unwavering dedication to family and community.
A funeral service for Arlene will be held Sunday, May 4, 2025 from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM at Schwartz Brothers-Jeffer Memorial Chapels, 114-03 Queens Blvd, Forest Hills, NY 11375. Following the funeral service will be a committal service from 1:30 PM to 2:00 PM at Mt. Moriah Cemetery Jewish, 685 Fairview Ave, Fairview, NJ 07022.
