David was someone who saw me for who I was and cherished that.
He was a true friend.

It was a great honor to work alongside David at NSWC IH. David was an intelligent and witty man that made working there a great place. I will never forget the many moments we passed discussing various things, such as whether a hot dog can be classified as a sandwich, how many anvils a man should have, or the history and the significance of the Maxwell House Haggadah. When we first met, I was just at the beginning of my career in R&D, and looking for what the next steps of my career was; I was heavily considering going for a PhD. One of the most memorable conversations with him was when we discussed what it takes to get a masters or PhD, and if it's worthwhile, and if it's for me, and what it meant to him. It was a long and insightful conversation permeated with his signature snarky humor. He was able to explain it to me in such a way that no one had ever explained it to me before. I have thought about that conversation a lot since then, and especially now as I am filling out my application for grad school. I am extremely thankful to have met such a wonderful man; I miss you David, it was a privilege to know you.

I did not work with David long, but he was an inspiring, brilliant and kind man. May his spirit live on, and may his family find peace and comfort during this difficult time. 

David was a fantastic person who had a way of making people feel included and showing them he cared. We bonded over our love for dogs (and the silly things they do) and being Virginia refugees (if that sounds like an over dramatic way to describe a person who had moved out of the state of Virginia, it’s because it is by design). David was always full of jokes, and easy to talk to. I’ll miss his knowledge of niche materials and his impromptu office chats. He was a good person, we lost him far too soon.

David was always one of the friendliest faces in the office, and one of the most welcoming presences outside of it. Every day I got to hang out with David was one made better by his humor and his tales of adventure.

David was someone I looked up to, and someone I trusted. He was incredibly smart, but also wise and had a good take on seemingly everything. And his hobbies were just so cool.

I’ll never not miss us blaming each other for every mistake. I’ll never forget the goofiness of David picking up the giant dog that is Larby. I don’t know who I’m going to go complain to when I’m annoyed. And who is going to stop me from using stainless 316?

I’ll miss you, David. You were gone too soon. Thanks for all the good times.

I'll miss David's always smiling, mustachioed face every day in the office. He was one of the first people I met when we started working together about a year ago. Since then we had lots of lunch chats about everything from thermite recipes he was working on to whether or not hot dogs are sandwiches. He was uniquely intelligent, curious and energetic, his loss is deeply felt and my heart goes out to those who had the privilege of knowing him.

David lived his life to the fullest. He connected with people on a personal level unlike almost anyone I know. Reflecting on my time with David I take away that he always brought out the best in me. 

I'll miss David, his fantastic mustache, and his thirst for life. He was passionate about metals and we enjoyed talking about their functional limits and failure modes. David was a very special person whom I was looking forward to getting to know better. I will miss him and think of him every time I consider the galvanic corrosion protection measures he helped me decide on for my house. His smile was infectious. 

Damn, hard to lose a real one :(. I know David from casual office chats and bouldering with him. He was always hurt from something, more so than the usual climber thanks to his jiu jitsu. I was excited to next see David again to tell him about the anime I'm watching which features Japanese swords as characters to set him off on a rant. I was also hoping to talk about the metroidvania I was playing to rec it to him. It was always fun hearing about hi hobbies, I'll miss that. RIP.

David and I started on the same day, he was one of the first friends I made at the office. David was the kind to be first at a table and the last to leave. He made people feel seen and included and always had a fun story to tell. I will really miss you my friend. 

My heart is broken for David’s wife and family. David and I started work at my current job at about the same time. He was a joy to be around from day 1. He had a fantastically gregarious personality, sharp mind, and helpful spirit. I’ll miss chatting with him around the coffee maker, of which he didn’t even drink any. 

I have known David for a few years. David was talented, passionate and always available. David was a really nice person. A person who enlightens. We will miss him a lot.

Even though I only knew David through work, he was, without a doubt, one of the most intelligent and passionate people I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. He will be missed.

I still can’t believe this, I just saw and talked to you at pole for Justice. I didn’t know David well but had gotten to meet him and know him through his wife Whitney. David and Whitney have helped me through some incredibly difficult times and I am so grateful I got to meet David and may his memory be a blessing. 

David will be missed. His passion for... just about everything was pretty infectious. I remember having a half hour long conversation with him just about swords and blacksmithing. It was pretty incredible to me that he was able to keep up with such a time-intensive hobby while still working as an engineer. He also had a passion for gaming (one shared by many of us) and he was frequently able to kick my butt in games that he had just picked up that night. It was a pleasure knowing him and being his friend - game nights (and life) won't be quite the same without him

It's seems unreal and unfair to imagine a world without David's intelligence, creativity, and compassion. He was one of the few people I felt close enough to trust to meet my family, and it was an honor he reciprocated.  The world will feels dimmer today without his brightness, but the warmth and exuberance of how he lived will linger with us into tomorrow.
I miss you dude and I'll remember talking about improving the integrity of bubbles with you every time I see children blowing little orbs of soap into the air. 
I miss you dude and I'll remember you everytime I see a masterlock and chuckle to myself about how easy it would be to crack.
I miss you dude and I'll never be able to hike on a trail or climb a mountain without your laughter at my poor choice of hiking pants bouncing in my head like echoes in a canyon.

Maybe when we meet again you'll have even more to teach me. Until then I'll miss you dude. Thanks for the lessons.

All our love to you and your families. We will always reflect on David’s kindness and wonderful spirit and love of life. He is missed.  Sherry & Joe 

David absolutely adored his two dogs Max and Larby. He could pick them both up like big pieces of luggage and then cradle them on the couch like babies. He was also an incredibly loyal and generous friend - helping several people through rough spots in their life and always bringing super thoughtful gifts.  David was always building things, making beautiful metal works and DIY projects around the house. He was always eager to share that knowledge with friends and spend hours teaching them how to blacksmith as well. 

David had an incredibly intelligent mind and could spend hours discussing politics, science, philosophy, or scifi books. He made excellent home made ice cream and was a good sport during board game nights. He always made sure to ask how people were doing and make them feel welcome in his home. 

David was a good person and a good friend. I will miss him terribly.
