Dorothy Weiner, beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 19, 2024 at the age of 96. She will be deeply missed by her family.
A strong and deliberate woman, she spent 65 years between the West Bronx and Co-op City before retiring to her own apartment attached to her daughter’s home in Queens. She enjoyed crosswords and other word puzzles and found joy in books as a voracious reader.
Along with being a dedicated spouse and mother, she also worked throughout her life, retiring at 65. After graduating from William Howard Taft High School in 1944, she married her beloved husband Jack in 1950, and continued on to raise their two children. She was a trailblazer as a mother in the workforce– long before it was the norm.
A strong observer of her Jewish heritage, she kept a kosher kitchen, lived the values of the faith and served as the spiritual and religious matriarch of her family.
She was predeceased by her parents, Louis and Jennie Shengler, Jack Weiner, her spouse of 35 years, and her cherished brother Alexander Shengler.
Dorothy is survived by son Mark Weiner (Leslie), dedicated caregiver and daughter Cheryl Gersh, as well as grandsons Matthew Weiner, Jeremy Weiner, Jonathan Gersh and Benjamin Weiner.
May her memory always be a blessing to her family and all who knew her.
A graveside service for Dorothy will be held Tuesday, July 23, 2024 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Cedar Park and Beth El Cemeteries, 735 Forest Ave, Paramus, NJ 07652.
