We send our heartfelt condolences to the Benjamin family. Harriet was such a lovely woman who was always so kind to us and our children. She had a genuine interest in our lives, and we loved stopping and talking to her whenever we'd see her around our apartment building. She will truly be missed.

I had the great pleasure of working with Harriet for many years. She was a great mentor to me. I will miss her.

My sincerest condolences to the Benjamin family.  I was very fortunate to have Mrs. Benjamin as my first manager when I started QPL.  She was tough but fair, she was strict but empathetic and she defended her staff no matter what the situation.  I learned much about what makes a great manager and a great leader from her.  Unfortunately, I only spent 9 months with her before I was transferred out.  I would see her at meetings, and she would jokingly say, "you spent 9 months with me just like a baby." She was swift, witty, charming, graceful, tactful, spunky and very fashionable and I loved everything about her.  After she retired, I would see her very once in a while when she came into Central for her knitting and crochet books and she would say with a smile, "NYPL has a better selection of books" and I would laugh.  I will miss her. Thank you, Mrs. Benjamin, for being such an important part in the development of my life.  

I am very sorry and knew her when she worked in the Broadway Library. 

I would like to begin with my heartfelt condolences to the Benjamin family.
I worked three years with Mrs. Benjamin, and she was one of the kindest souls I met. She was full of energy and smiles; she cheered me up on difficult days and encouraged me to do better.  I learned a lot from her.  After she retired, it was always a happy occasion whenever she stopped by to visit.  I am grateful and privileged for her tutelage and friendship, and will miss her and cherish her memories forever.  Thank you Mrs. Benjamin, and may you rest in God’s peace. Amen.

I worked with Mrs.  Benjamin in Jackson Heights in 2001.  She was always so kind to me.  It was a pleasure working with her and knowing her.  It was always a great surprise when she would come back and visit, I enjoyed her visits.  I will always remember her.

I am deeply saddened to learn of Harriet's death.  she was a colleague at the NY Historical society. Her devotion to the exhibits and her high demands for learning made her a role model as well as a friend.
Her vibrant enthusiasm will be with me.   
May her memory be a blessing

I am deeply sorry to hear of Harriet's passing.  As you remember we did a number of special events together and both of you drove me home afterwards.

Harriet was a delight, so full of knowledge,  understanding and good humor.  I respected her approach to her Docent tasks and enjoyed sharing the many events we did together.

She was a lovely lady and I will miss her very much.
