Henry was born on May 5, 1927 and raised in Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn. He spent his happy youth on the Manhattan Beach sands where he developed his life-long love of the ocean. He proudly served his country by joining the Navy during World War II.
Henry shared his love of the seaside with all of us as a family in our summer excursions to the beaches of Fire Island.
He was passionate about the arts, particularly classical music, and we grew up accompanied by his wonderful record collection. At the same time, he was an accomplished athlete, who excelled at so many sports. He was also the ultimate New York Giants football fan!
Henry cared so much about animals and nature. He cherished his beloved dog, Sam, for 17 years, and taught our family cat, Thomasina, to walk on a leash!
Henry was kindness and gentleness personified. He was a quiet and dignified person with a tender and loving heart.
He was incredibly thoughtful and sweet to everyone he met. Though reserved by nature, he was extremely warm and very funny.
First and foremost, he was a family man who deeply cared for and loved our dear mother Toby, to whom he was married for 61 years; his adored children Kara and Erica; his precious grandchildren, Lauren and Evan; his son-in-law, Daniel, his grandfurchildren, Cody and Kissy, and all his extended family members.
In his final years he took on his serious health challenges with incredible grace and strength. He was a rare person indeed, who set an example to all of us to treat everyone with respect and kindness. We were so fortunate to have him with us for so many years and we will cherish our wonderful, happy years with him forever in our hearts.
A graveside service for Henry will be held Tuesday, June 20, 2023 from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM at New Mount Lebanon Cemetery, 189 Gill Lane, Iselin, NJ 08830.
