Joanne was a loving mother, daughter, and sister; her life was devoted to creating, giving, and study. An expert baker who would prefer to give her creations away to those she loved. A gifted craftsperson in sugar arts, fabric, yarn, miniatures, and almost any other medium she chose. A scholar of J. R. R. Tolkien and a student of British literature, and interested in reading absolutely anything that might spark her imagination. A lifelong learner, still researching new crafting techniques at 75. Someone who would think of others first and always, and wanted to give anything and everything to those who wanted or needed.
Joanne graduated Mater Christi High School, and then attended Richmond College, now called The College of Staten Island. Public service was the hallmark of her professional life, from teaching to the New York State Department of Health and ending her career at the New York State Department of Veterans' Services. She was a volunteer with God's Love We Deliver until a debilitating injury. She was predeceased by her mother, Rose Madonna, and is survived by her sister Lorraine Ventorino and her son Jason Marin.
Those choosing to make charitable donations in her honor are asked please consider the St. Francis Breadline, a charity that was dear to Joanne, at 135 W 31st St, New York, NY 10001 or at https://give.stfrancisbreadline.org/page/93696/donate/1
