“There is a time for everything and a season for every activity under the heavens: a time to be born and a time to die”
On September 25th, 1957, the world would make way for Robert Dudley Quant. Dudley as he was affectionately called was born in Inagua, Bahamas to his loving parents Robert Quant and Mae Simms-Quant. Dudley being the first born of seven brought a special joy to the entire family circle.
Dudley attended the All Age Primary School of Inagua where he created wonderful memories and made numerous lifelong friendships. In those days attending Sunday School, Church and the Boys Brigade were a must. Dudley enjoyed being apart of it all. The beach, going fishing at the lake and camping out with family & friends were the highlight of his life during that time.
In August of 1969, Dudley would relocate to Grand Turk, Turks & Caicos Islands to continue their secondary education. Here, he would live with his grand aunt Luce for a period until he was later joined by his mom and siblings. His dad followed the family sometime later. It was there at the Turks and Caicos High School now Helena James Robinson High, where Dudley met and fell in love with his high school sweetheart Jeane Garland.
Dudley made the decision along with his parents to drop out of high school in order to assist his family financially. Grand Turk Taxi Driver, Jack Williams hired him as a driver while Thomas Malcolm (deceased) took him under his wing as a Taylor’s apprentice. He also spent some time working at the US Naval Base. Dudley and Jeane would go on a lifelong adventure. The couple moved to New York in the fall of 1980 and they exchanged wedding vows in November of the same year. The big apple became their new home. They lived, worked, and made wonderful memories along the way. In February of 1982 Dudley and Jeane welcomed a set of twins, Davin and Darjean (predeceased). Later, they would also welcome another son who we all affectionately call DQ. Dudley also fathered Romano, Jordache and Darius, with Romano being the eldest of the bunch.
Dudley was a man with a big heart, who enjoyed life and everything it had to offer. He spent many days doing things that he loved. Fishing was a sport for him, a time to bond and catch up. Every occasion that he visited back home he would request a boat trip with his brother Desmond or his nephews. He loved fishing on the bank. When he would return to New York, he would be sure to bring along with him his local catch. While in New York he would also go fishing with friends, the only difference would be the morning of the trip he would take local fish from his freezer to thaw so when he returned, he could eat his grouper or snapper, while the guys ate their catch of the day.
Dudley never traveled without his camera so that he could always record found memories wherever he went. He also loved to dance. If you truly knew him, you would recall the many dance nights he had at his home, where the soca and rake and scrape music would be on blast. If he got you on the dance floor, there was no letting go. His nieces would always tell stories about getting their early dance moves from him and Dervent. They made wonderful memories at Mom and Pop’s house learning the butterfly, the bogle and the gogo wine.
Dudley also had a passion for mechanical work. He enjoyed working on vehicles as one of his first jobs in New York was working at an automobile shop. After a year, he would leave to become a manager at Meineke. Several years later he became a manager at Midas as well. After 9 -11, Dudley pursued a career in the health care profession as a Driver. He would transport Doctors and medical supplies back and forth to different hospitals until his retirement in 2022.
On March 8th, 2024, his time on earth was done and God saw it fit to call him home. The world has truly lost a remarkable soul.
