

Born January 19, 1949, he was a longtime resident of Fort Erie
Known to family and friends as Nelson or Bill, he will be lovingly remembered by his wife Beth (Bridgeman) and his children Robyn (Aaron) Tiessen, Jessica and Michael (Paula Jane) as well as Shawn O’Connor who he considered a son.
Ever so proud of his grandchildren William, Cecilia, Georgia and Theodore. Their memories of “Grampa” will include the fast drives around the farm in the golf cart, outback campfires with roasted marshmallows, doing puzzles, reading stories in the big armchair and Grampa’s jokes and relentless teasing.
William Nelson was predeceased by his parents James R. (1966) and Mary Lou (Putney) (2020) and his brother James Neal (1984)
Uncle Nelson will be missed by his niece Beverly Lamb and nephew James Lamb and their children
He is survived by cousins Paul (Susan) Putney, Kim Putney, Susan Putney, Chris Putney, Janet Harris and Nancy Coffin, The members of the Bridgeman family, Fred (Lisa), Rob and John (Lynda) and their families
He was a crane operator with Horton Steel (Fort Erie) prior to his 30-year employment with General Motors (St. Catharines). He did his best thinking when cutting grass and took great pride in keeping the workshop and our home in good repair.
His love of hot rods and classic cars was shared with so many true friends. He will be missed at Boys Night on Fridays and Sunday Breakfast in Port.
Cremation has taken place.
Visitation with the family will be held at Benner’s Funeral Home in Fort Erie on Sunday, February 22nd, 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. followed by the funeral service at 5:00 p.m.
To honour our dad, the family wants to give him a final ride in his old truck and have planned a Celebration of Life Car Cruise, Saturday, June 13th 2026 with a rain date June 14th. The ride will drive by locations special to him and end with the interment of ashes at Greenwood Cemetery in Fort Erie. More info TBA
