It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Alana Joy Fyfe on May 2, 2013, surrounded by family who love and will miss her dearly. Alana will be sadly missed by her children, Jamie Lynn Anderson, Bradley Fyfe, David Fyfe and Michael Fyfe, and additions to her family Rob Mellick and Heather Watts. Alana’s beautiful grandchildren Ethan, Lola, Chase and Emma will miss their “Nana Lana”.
Alana was born on November 2, 1962 to Edith and Allan Henderson Sr. In 1967, Alana and her sister Donna became a part of a loving adoptive family. The whole Anderson family drove to Fort Frances and brought Alana and Donna home. Alana was a very happy child and was named Alana Joy because of her joyful disposition. Her given name was Alana Faye. When Alana was 17, her sister Janice made contact with Janet and Paul Anderson, her adoptive parents, and asked to contact Alana. This began a relationship with her birth family who she was thrilled to connect with. Alana moved back home to Stanjikoming First Nation and met the rest of her brothers, sisters, cousins, aunts and uncles. Being the outgoing, lovable person she that she was, Alana made a deep connection with each one of her family members, like she was here in Stanji all along. Alana returned to Southern Ontario to work, then in 2001, she started getting sick; the doctors couldn’t figure it out for a long time. Eventually in 2002, she was diagnosed with Wegener’s Granulomatosis resulting in the need for kidney dialysis treatments. Alana returned home to Stanjikoming, and didn’t let her illness slow her down. Alana worked as the “Healthy Babies Healthy Children Coordinator”, and volunteered her time organizing Treaty Three Police bicycle rodeos and attending “Kidney Foundation of Canada” meetings in Fort Frances.
She made many friends wherever she went and was well-respected wherever she worked. She gave back to people and was always caring and understanding. When her health problems seemed to set her back, she underwent all the treatments with courage and a positive outlook. Through it all she never gave up, her positive attitude, great sense of humor and caring for all sustained her throughout her illness. Before she passed away, Alana wanted everyone to know that she loves all of her family and friends and loved every moment shared together. She also cared for her “dialysis family”. Alana was predeceased by her birth parents, Edith and Allan Henderson; her father Paul Anderson; brothers Alfred Henderson, and John Cochrane.
Alana will be lovingly remembered by her siblings, Stewart Henderson, James A Henderson, Janice Henderson, Allan Henderson Jr., (Donna) Marie Anderson, Joe Cochrane, Derrick Cochrane, Beverley Cochrane, Alex Cochrane, Brenda Ducharme, Deborah Morrison, Roy Morrison, Ed Morrison and William Morrison. Alana had numerous nieces and nephews and loved the time she spent with each one, especially Jodie, who spent many nights helping Alana when the pain became too much for her.
Also left to cherish her memory are her siblings, Murray Anderson, Donald Anderson, David Anderson, Margaret Anderson, and nieces Ronda and Kathleen, and nephews Ian and Julian.
A traditional wake will be held at Stanjikoming First Nation on Monday May 6, 2013 at 5:00 p.m. Funeral Services will officiated by Elder Gilbert Smith on Tuesday May 7, 2013. Active pallbearers will be Ed Morrison, Stuart Kabatay, Raymond Johnson, Dominick Morrison, Desmond Jourdain, Allan Henderson III, Brian Cochrane Jr. and Bill Wayash Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be Beverly Morrison, Judy Morrison, Armand Jourdain Jr., and Jane Elliot.
A memorial service will also be held at First Grantham United Church in St. Catharines at a later date. Honorary pallbearers will be Roberta Masecar, Janet Anderson and the rest of her family and friends from everywhere.
