Al was born the middle child of Gustav and Maria Gustafson on November 17, 1933, in Crozier Township, Ontario. He received his early education in a one room school in Crozier, then graduated from Fort Frances High School in the Commercial Class of 1953. He worked for the CNR as a clerk, logging with his father and brother Victor in the Flanders area and then for Boise Cascade retiring in 1992 as a Senior Millwright A-1. Besides working full time, he built numerous houses, garages, an outdoor rink for his grand children and even a church. Al could build or fix anything, he was a man of few words but loved to work. After his retirement he spent time at the cabin visiting with his nephews and their families. His great delight was fishing with his nephew David, gardening, having coffee with his friends at McDonalds and walking his dog Rusty. Al enjoyed helping his nephew Howard Hampton during his NDP campaigns. Al loved going to the rink to watch Kurt play for the Borderland Thunder or watching Jeff, Derrick and Alex in minor hockey. Al was proud of his oldest grandson Michael, the nurse, who advised and guided us through the medical system during his battle with cancer.
At Allan's request there will be no service. Should family or friends desire, in memoriam, donations may be made to Knox Renewal Fund in care of Green Funeral Home, Box 427, Fort Frances, Ontario P9A 3M8
