Bakenawanqewabeak Willie passed away on Sunday, June 14, 2020 at the LaVerendrye General Hospital with her daughter, Lorraine, by her side.

She was born on September 8, 1943 in Cedar Lake, ON to Joseph and Irene Whitecrow. She met her Howard Willie her future husband on Review Island owned by Ernest Oberholtzer. They were blessed with five children plus Rudy Whitecrow that she loved greatly. She worked very hard all her life, she was a mother, not only to her children, but also to the cousins coming and going all the time from foster care, (you know who you are). Her and dad raised us children on the trapline during winter holidays to learn how to hunt and trap and to Rainy Lake for every summer to learn how to fish.

Doris was predeceased by her husband Howard; son Rudy Whitecrow, parents Joe and Irene Whitecrow; in-laws Ackley and Mary Willie; 2 brothers Leonard and Joseph Whitecrow Jr., sister Cecilia Whitecrow; sisters-in-law Julia Whitecrow and Elsie Blackjack; brother-in-law Ernie Bird; son-in-laws John Cochrane and Fred Ottertail Sr.; daughter-in-law Shirley Snowball and our “Special Sister” Petrina Whitecrow and fur-grandson George (may you be happy in heaven with Grandma)

She leaves behind her daughter Lorraine Derman (Mark), granddaughter Victoria Whitecrow (Patrick) and great grandchildren Evan, Sophie and Odessa, daughter Darlene Whitecrow and grandchildren Dawn Marie (Scott), Thomas and Jacob and great grandson Robbie, sons Sheldon Whitecrow and Ringo Whitecrow (Phyllis) and grandchildren RJ and Hailey, daughter Camille Whitecrow and grandchildren Dorian James (Roxy) and great grandchildren Joanne, Izzy, Dorian Jr and Alexia and great great grandson Jeremiah, grandchildren Phillip Ottertail, Fred Ottertail Jr.,Desirae Whitecrow (Reggie) and three great grandchildren, grandchildren Jade Whitecrow, Howard Ottertail, Clara Whitecrow; Lindsay, Keisha and River (Rudy Whitecrows children) sisters Judy Bird, Celina Whitecrow (Norman), brother Howard Whitecrow and sister Sue-Ann Whitecrow (Rob); and numerous nieces and nephews.

A very special Miigwech to Celina Whitecrow, Zerlina Whitecrow, Delia Whitecrow, Victoria Whitecrow, Darlene Whitecrow, Ringo Whitecrow, Camille Whitecrow and extreme gratitude to Sheldon Whitecrow and everyone else who helped with moms care.

A traditional wake will be held at the Willie Family Home in Seine River First Nation on Wednesday, June 17, 2020 from 3 p.m. A traditional ceremony will be held in the morning of Thursday, June 18, 2020 with interment in the Whitecrow Cemetery with Elder Andrew Johnson.

The pallbearers will be Sheldon Whitecrow, Dorian James Whitecrow, Jamon Leonard, Shane Whitecrow, Darcy Kabatay and Ringo Whitecrow.

The honourary pallbearers will be Rodney Whitecrow, Dean Whitecrow, Brian Kabatay.

The family gratefully requests that friends respect and follow all the COVID-19 precautions and requirements by wearing masks, using hand sanitizer and maintaining social distancing during the wake and service.
