

Catherine Rachel “Kate” NORRIS Catherine Rachel “Kate” Norris, 94, of Rainycrest Long Term Care, 550 Osborne St., Fort Frances, Ontario, formerly of Burriss, Ontario, passed away at her residence on Tuesday, November 24, 2009. Catherine was born in Ripley, Ontario on January 2, 1915 to the late Murdock and Ellen (Nellie) McKay. When she was a small child her mother died and her father moved the family back to Burrriss, where he had family help to raise his six children. Her dad married Libby Witherspoon who helped instill Kate with her work ethic and compassion for others. Kate soon had seven more brothers and sisters who made a big happy family. Kate married Guy (Dick) Norris on Sept. 8, 1934 and raised two daughters, Peg (Joe Gordon), and Mary Ellen (Bill Sinclair). She was predeceased by her husband, Walter Guy Norris in 1993; stepmother, Elizabeth (Libby) McKay; five brothers, Ken, Bill, Norman, Frazer and Jim McKay; and one sister, Margaret McKay. Catherine is survived by two daughters, Peggy Jo and husband Joe Gordon of Keewatin, ON., and Mary Ellen and husband Bill Sinclair of Fort Frances, ON.; seven grandchildren, Guy Norris Gordon, Gayle Gordon, Kathi and husband Don Tucker, Brad Sinclair, Mike Sinclair and wife Brenda, Kari and partner Kevin McLean, and Nicole and husband Jim Sandelovich; thirteen great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren. She is also survived by three sisters, Marie Lawres, Marion Humphrey and Loretta Ivanowich all of Fort Frances, ON., three brothers, Allan McKay and wife Barb of Fort Frances, ON., Wayne McKay and wife Doreen of Alberton Twsp, ON., and Dale McKay of Burriss, ON.; and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service to celebrate Catherine’s life will be held on Saturday, November 28, 2009 at 2 p.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances, Ontario with Reverend Frances Flook officiating. Interment will take place in Burriss Cemetery in Burriss, Ontario. Honourary pallbearers will be Catherine’s grandchildren.
