Donald was born the 21st of September, 1937 in Avonlea, Saskatchewan and was the eldest child of Howard and Violet Pointer. Donald was predeceased by his brothers Lloyd and Carman. He is survived by his brother Cliff; sister Linda and 6 nieces.
The family moved to the Fort Frances area from Saskatchewan when he was just a small child and settled on a small farm in Crozier. In spite of his physical disability, Donald learned to ride a two wheel bicycle and had a real love for music. He actually wore out a wind up record player. When the family sold the farm they moved into Fort Frances. Donald remained at home until he moved to Caland Manor in Atikokan and that was his home for the next 40 years. Donald made many friends in Atikokan and had wonderful care and support from the staff and Caland Manor. Recently he was able to move to his own apartment and was thrilled to have a key to his own apartment. Donald lived at SIL with excellent support and his family has great appreciation for the staff that enriched his life. A big thank you to all the support staff that touched his life and took such great care of him.
Due to COVID 19 restrictions, a private family burial has taken place in Fort Frances.
The family gratefully requests that in memoriam donations may be made to the Atikokan Community Living, 2054-114 Gorrie Street, Atikokan, ON, P0T 1C0.
