Doug was born on December 11, 1961 in Fort Frances, ON to Harry and Louise Morrisseau. He grew up in Couchiching, living there all his life. As a young man he worked for the local lumber mill before his health forced him to stop working.
He was a sports fanatic, and especially loved to watch hockey. He loved to cheer for his Montreal Canadiens. In his younger days Doug was an exceptional hockey player, as one of his friends puts it, “smooth skater, awesome stickhandler, the moves, and the touch to putt’er top shelf”. Doug also loved to play golf where he was able to swing both ways with a right handed club or a left handed club. He also enjoyed fishing, whether he got skunked or came back with a string of fish.
Doug loved his neighbourhood and the people who lived there, Ida to the left, Diane to right. As one neighbour who was moving describes there interaction....”was leaving and my neighbour Doug asks “are ya moving?” yep....”K well make sure you stop in sometime and wherever you move to don’t flip over the railings, and don’t slip off any stairs, and don’t ride any bikes into the ditch”....what a neighbour, kept an eye out for me all those years. That was Doug, he loved his neighbours.
Doug leaves behind his son Derek Morrison (Madi); grandsons Bennett, Chayton, Zaiden and Lux; siblings Allan, Carol, Richard, Harry (Joy), Elaine, Bugsy, Laura (Elmer), Patrick, Sheldon (Andrea), Amanda (Leroy) and Bill as well as numerous nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles, and cousins, and friends.
Doug was predeceased by his parents Harry and Louise Morrisseau; grandparents Alphonse and Mary Smith and Alfred and Maggie Morrisseau; nieces Kelly Morrisseau and Janell Morrisseau; nephews Rick Morrisseau and Michael Kearney; sister Alfreda Kearney; sisters-in-law Phyllis Morrisseau and Mary Morrisseau and brothers-in-law Reggie Rogers and Robert Law.
A private family service was held with interment in Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery in Couchiching First Nation.
The pallbearers were Anthony Morrisseau, Harry James Morrisseau, Evan Morrisseau, Justin Morrisseau, Lorne Morrsseau, Mike Morrisseau, Lonny Morrisseau, Ed Yerxa, Guy LaVallee.
