

George was born on April 5, 1936 in Fort francs, ON to Frederick and Isabelle Barrett. He lived in the Rainy River District all his life working in the bush with various businesses across the district. He enjoyed fishing, trapping minnows and spending time with his grandchildren. He was always up for a good argument.
He leaves behind his daughters Evie and husband Gerrald Hartlin and Suzie and Roy Sigurdson all of Emo, ON; grandchildren Noreen and husband Dan Poperechny and their daughter Sloane, Greg Hartlin and wife Marie and their sons Henry, Howard and Hugh, Derek Sigurdson and wife Ashley and their children Kenny and Klaire, Matt Sigurdson and wife Jillian and Adam Barrett and wife Donna and her children Sabrina, Brent and Jeffery; sisters Norma Hagen of Greenbush, MN, Noreen Barker of North Bay, ON and Doreen and husband Frank DeBenedet of Fort Frances; daughter-in-law Terri Cotè; extended family Dan Kivari, Tammy Kivari and her son Aaron as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
George was predeceased by his parents; son George Barrett Jr.; brother Donald and wife Marg Barrett; sisters Mary Bender and Ruth Gresko; brothers-in-law Leif Hagen and Robert Barker.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, February 12, 2018 at 1 p.m. at Green Funeral Home with Reverend Frances Flook officiating.
Cremation has taken place and a private interment will be held at a later date.
The honourary pallbearers will be his grandchildren Noreen Poperechny, Greg Hartlin, Derek Sigurdson, Matt Sigurdson and Adam Barrett; great grandchildren Sloane Poperechny, Henry, Howard and Hugh Hartlin, Kenny and Klaire Sigurdson.
