It is with sadness that I read of Joseph's passing. He was an amazing teacher. I had him in grade 7 . He had lots of  creatures in the classroom. He was kind and encouraged learning. He also taught us to treat nature with care.

It is with great sadness that we heard of Joe’s passing. We first met Joe and his family in Niagara Falls in 1953. We immigrated from Yugoslavia at that time with our young daughter, Tatiana. We have kept in touch with the family all these years as we became wonderful friends. Our deepest condolences to Joe’s family.

Some of my best memories from my childhood were because of Joe. He took us on a school trip and captured some photos that being me such joy everytime I see them.

I have many happy memories of working with Joe, just across the hall from my classroom  at Marks Street School. We had a great team of young, enthusiastic teachers who worked with a great bunch of kids. They sure treasured their chance to watch the stars with Joe from up on the hill by your place. 
Joe, Jennie and all you were Cory's extended family and he spent as much time there as he did at home.

I had the privilege of knowingJoe as a neighbour ,a friend, and an outstanding teacher with whom I worked for twenty years.
Joe had a special talent for connecting with kids who needed special help, encouragement, and support.
Joe lived life to its fullest. He respected the environment, and its inhabitants. His photography was spectacular,
I know many hundreds of people will recall memories of visiting the stars through his telescope.

Mr. Marohnic as I called him, was person who I will remember fondly.  He inspired my interest in photography.  Also introducing me to climbing the mountains around us. Of course highland park wasn't a mountain, but the adventures filled our imaginations.

Joe was an amazing teacher but he was more than that to us kids he taught. He always had kind words to inspire us to go on in life and live fully. I remember as a troubled teen, I told him I wanted to die. He told me to look at the stars in the night sky. One of those stars is you, he said. If you die, your star would go out and the sky would be dark. That made the difference to me at that time in my life and I always  considered him an angel. He is and always will be.
