Lyla Rae Coran

Lyla was born the only child to Rollie and Helen Hyre on June 26, 1932 in Fort Frances, Ontario. She grew up on the farm in Burriss Township and spent many summers at the cabin on Lake Despair.

After graduating high school in Fort Frances, she attended Teachers College in North Bay Ontario. Lyla was united in marriage to the love of her life, Ray Coran on August 3, 1954 and just recently they shared their 57th wedding anniversary together. They remained in the Fort Frances area where Lyla worked teaching in several area schools and raising her four children. Lyla’s other interests were reading, gardening and family time spent at the cabin on Red Gut Bay. In more recent years she devoted herself to her grandchildren enjoying their lives and activities.

Lyla was a member of the CWL and a volunteer with the Hospital Auxiliary. She also enjoyed get-togethers with her Italian Ladies and Burris Women groups.

Lyla is lovingly remembered by her husband, Raymond and her children, Reno and Jill (Mihichuk), Terri and Richard Perron, Diana and Barry McTavish and Mike and Tracey (Cunningham). She is also survived by her grandchildren Joel, Cody, Liza, Cara, Katie, Jake, Keith, Jackson and Jessica. Her great grandson, Evan arrived well in time to get to know Grandma.

Also left to cherish her memory are her special friends Barb Gustafson, Monique Strain, Angela LaForest, Dorothy Coran, Barb Coran, Toni Edgett, Olympia Benassi, Faye Gasparini and Merle Warner.

Lyla was predeceased by her granddaughter Nina Rae and by her parent's Rollie and Helen.

The funeral mass will be held on Saturday, September 24, 2011 at 11:00 at St.

Mary's Parish in Fort Frances with Father Francis Pudicherry officiating.

The honourary pallbearers will be Lyla’s grandchildren and great grandson
