It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Stafford Yurkiw at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre at the age of 85. Stafford was born in Garson, Manitoba and lived in Winnipeg, Prince George and Thunder Bay before settling in Atikokan with his family in 1965. He was predeceased by his wife, Alice, after 61 years of marriage. He will be missed by his children Myron (Donna), Patti (David), grandchildren Steve (Nicole), Dave (Liv), Phil (Jenny), Miranda, and great grandchild, Mia, as well as sisters Doris, Millie, Judy, Ollie, Elizabeth, and numerous nephews and nieces.
Stafford led a full and determined life and was never afraid of hard work. Among other things, he was a diesel and auto mechanic, millwright, and welder, and he ran several businesses throughout his long and varied work career. The week prior to his passing, he was still delivering newspaper flyers to many households.
The family wishes to thank many supportive friends, Green Funeral Home, Dr. Van Der Loo, Dr. Campanaro, nurses and hospital staff at the Atikokan General Hospital, as well as the Emergency, Stroke and Palliative care teams at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre.
A service was held on Feb. 2, 2015 in Atikokan. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to either of the hospitals named above.
God Bless
