It is with heavy hearts that we are announcing the passing of Virginia Lydia Cousineau, nee Terry. Mom was 93 and passed on December 26, 2020 in St. Joseph’s Hospice Unit, with her daughters by her side.
She was born August 22, 1927 and raised in Fort Frances. Mom was a hairdresser and then went into nursing. She married James Cousineau after the war and they had 4 children. They lived in Fort Frances, Sioux Lookout, Red Lake, where she was a member of the Ladies Legion Auxiliary, and Mckenzie Island, where they worked hard at the Gold Eagle Hotel. They moved to Thunder Bay once the children left home.
Mom was a special person who loved everyone she met.
Mom will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her children, Terry Cousineau, Patti Waldon, Bill Cousineau and Kathie (Howard) Maunula; grandchildren, Clayton Cousineau, Jim (Tracey) Waldon, Renee Hiiro (Al), Hack (Lisa) Waldon, Jodi Cousineau (Tim), Josh(Pam) Cousineau, Becki (Lance) Little, Mack Cousineau, Jacqueline (Dave) Savage, Tyler (Kylee) Maunula, Brenden (Jenna) Maunula, Wyatt Maunula (Eija); special friends, Art and Shirley; and she was a part-time Mom to Rena Anaka and Cindy Moncrief. Mom was blessed with 20 great grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her parents, Lydia and William Terry; husband, James Cousineau; brother, Lynn Terry; grandsons, Cook Cousineau and Cody Maunula; son-in-law, Clint Waldon; daughter-in-law, Sharon Cousineau.
Thank you to the support staff at Jasper Place and the Doctors and Nursing staff at St. Joseph’s Hospice who took wonderful care of Mom in her time of need.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 11, 2022 at 10 a.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances, ON. Father Berchmanas Francis will officiate. She will be laid to rest with her husband, Jim in Holy Cross Cemetery in Fort Frances, ON.
Should family and friends so desire, donations may be made in Mom’s memory to the Thunder Bay Humane Society or Epilepsy Ontario.
