

Albert Wakefield passed away on the night of August 22nd, 2021 at a local hospital after a brief bout with Covid 19. Al was a resident of Nspire Nursing Home since having advanced Alzheimer's since the Autumn of 2020.
Albert was born on January 21st, 1933 preceded in death by his parents Albert Wakefield Sr. and Theresa Jeannette (Popp) Wakefield and had siblings Charles (Al's twin) and Linda (Wakefield) Evans, Bobby Wakefield.
He is survived by his husband and partner of 50 years, Marshall Belmaine of Fort Lauderdale, FL. and a large extended family.
Albert grew up in Saugus, Ma., attended primary and middle school there, and graduated from Saugus High School. He attended Eastern Nazarene College Museum of Fine Arts and Tufts University receiving degrees from those institutions in Massachusetts. He served in the US Army and was stationed in Germany.
Al had may careers over the years starting with working at his aunt and uncle's hamburger stand on the beach.
As an adult Al worked for the American Red Cross in Boston, Massachusetts where he worked in their accounting department where he was innovative, culminating with becoming their chief accountant until 1994.
Al and Marshall enjoyed many happy years in Massachusetts living in a fine home in Medford.
He had many friends in the Greater Boston area where he and Marshall started the Bay State Lambda Gay Veterans Organization. Al was a member of Tri Men, a gay men's social club and was particularly proud of being a charter member of Prime Timers of Boston.
In 1999 Al and Marshall decided to move to Florida, and bought a beautiful home in Oakland Park, FL, next to Fort Lauderdale. They immediately became active members of the wonderful community there.
Al and Marshall helped found the Fort Lauderdale chapter of Prime Timers of Fort Lauderdale in 2003.
Al and Marshall were also active in other organizations, The American Legion, Black and White men together, and American Veterans for Equal Rights.
A memorial gathering for Albert will be held Tuesday, August 31, 2021 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Broward Burial and Cremation, 1801 East Oakland Park Blvd, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33306, followed by a sharing of memories from 2:30 PM to 3:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to AVER (American Veterans for Equal Rights) P.O. Box 11247, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33339.
