These hand made beautiful birds were made by such a talented wonderful woman. We called her Toni. All her cards Mother’s Day Birthdays were hand made and I will always treasure them. I have these on the wall of our home and think of her with a sweet smile.How I will miss her warmth and kindness towards us accepting us as part of her familia. We love you Toni rest in peace.

She was strong, loving, stubborn and protective. Her words could be harsh and her judgments sharp, shaped by a hard life and everything she endured, but underneath that she was one of the most caring and loving women I’ve ever known. Even when her love came out in a tough way, there was always a sense of warmth and peace beneath it. She was complex, resilient and deeply rooted in love.

The part of her legacy that will always live on is the belief that family is forever. She taught us that family is the one thing you can rely on no matter what.  She showed me that even when life brings change or hardship, family remains. She built that foundation for all of us. It is because of her we continue to value staying close, supporting each other and loving each other unconditionally. The importance she placed on family will carry on for generations.


What made her special was her strength. She came from a hard life in Brazil and then immigrated to a country where she barely spoke the language, yet she still found a way to build a family and instill Christian values, love and togetherness. She made it a priority for us to stay united and to be there for each other, because family was the one constant she could rely on. Her inner will, the same stubbornness that helped her survive and push forward , shaped our family into what it is today. She led with resilience, faith and an unwavering commitment to family.

Vovó is the person who taught me that family is everything. She showed me the true meaning of unconditional love.  She showed me that you never turn your back on family and that you love and support each other even when you’re upset or going through difficult moments. Even when her words were firm or sharp, her love always came through in her actions. She never stopped reminding me that I was loved, sending birthday cards to me and even to my kids no matter what stage our relationship was in. She shaped how I understand loyalty, strength and what it means to truly show up for the people you love.

If I had one more moment with her I would tell her that her opinion always mattered to me. I would tell her that I loved her deeply and that she had an incredible impact on my life. I always wanted to make her proud. I would thank her for instilling her love of family in me, for teaching me that family is forever and for giving me values that will live on through my children and future generations. I would want her to know that everything she taught me continues in our family because of her.

One of my strongest memories growing up is her taking all the grandkids to Kings Dominion and then to the Chinese buffet afterward. That memory feels so “her,” because it shows the way she loved us.  She didn’t always show us through gentle words, but through her actions. Even though her words could sometimes be harsh or cutting, she always showed up for us. Those outings were her way of saying “I love you,” and that’s the memory I will hold onto forever.
