

Professor Arnold Kemp passed away on December 5th 2013, after a long bout of illness. He fought hard; never complaining, but finally succumbed to his illness. Arnold was born in Miami, Florida on January 5th 1935. He was the son of English and Annie Kemp. He served in the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged in 1960.
Following his Military Service he completed his undergraduate studies at Queens College in New York City and attended Harvard University for his graduate studies. After leaving Harvard, Arnold taught English at Medgar Evers College branch of City University of New York. He spent many years there as a tenured professor.
In 1991 Arnold was selected to teach English to graduate students at Shanghai University in the Peoples Republic of China. He said of his time there that it was too short. He enjoyed travel, always eager to learn about the culture of the people he encountered.
Arnold was a loving and devoted husband to wife Islyn, daughter Ayanna, and step-daughter Michelle. He was a mentor to the many youths he met, and was always positively involved in the affairs of his extended family.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 12, 2013 at 11:00 AM in the pyramid chapel of Forest Lawn Funeral Home in Davie Florida with a repast to follow. Interment will be with military honors at the South Florida Veterans Cemetery in Lake Worth, Florida on Friday, December 13, 2013 at 11:15 AM.
