On September 9th, 2000, after 14 years of marriage and extreme patience, Danielle and Frantz Lys welcomed life’s most wonderful gift: their only child, Ashley Eileen Lys. Ashley’s birth brought her parents immeasurable joy and changed the life of her loved ones forever.
Ashley, “Mamoune” to her mom Danie, was as beautiful as daylight, as sweet as pie, with a heart full of tremendous love and compassion for others. She was gifted both academically and artistically. An 8th Grade AP student at Doctors Charter, Ashou was a studious Honor roll student who maintained, despite her illness, excellent grades by attending virtual classes, collaborating with her classmates on group projects and completing assignments often from home and even from her hospital bed. Her mind was beautifully creative and her gifted passion for Arts was reflected in her drawings, paintings and crafts. It is no wonder that one of the pieces she made while hospitalized at Jackson Memorial, was chosen for its charity auction and published in the Miami Herald.
Ashley, affectionately called “my boss” by her dad Fanfan, was also a strong athlete. They shared a unique bond and a contagious love for soccer. She was a typical active 14 year old, with a sense of adventure, refreshingly curious who aspired to become a Vet. She always showed a genuine interest in all God’s creations: animals, trees and especially humans just to see how she can make their world better. Kind hearted until the end, Ashley demonstrated exceptional courage, wisdom beyond her years and a strong determination to get better and stay “normal” as she would say.
Ashley Eileen Lys was granted her angel wings on May 2nd, 2015 while lying in her father’s arms. Her life may seem too short to many, but those who were touched by her love understand that the quality of existence far exceeds the quantity of time in which one lives. Her gentle smile and sweet memories will live on in the hearts of her loving parents, Danielle and Frantz Lys, her grandmother “Mamatte”, Marie Marthe Auguste; her grandfather Georges Lys, her several aunties and uncles, her numerous cousins, her teachers, friends, classmates and her darling puppy “ Daisy”.
