Barbara Jean Anna Parrish was born in Miami Florida, on July 30th, 1935 where she spent her formative years going up . Barbara was the first and only born of Samuel and Mildred McKenzie. She was raised by a loving grand-father Nathaniel & Catherine Hutchinson in Liberty City. She was educated in the Dade County Public Schools. Growing up Barbara shared much of her life with Winifred Petty and sister Sally Jones.
Married to Zebbie Lee Parrish in 1952, they were blessed with five children Debra, Nathaniel, Anthony, Barbara Ann, and Paul. Barbara later married Lindberg Williams and completed her family with the birth of Alicia, Randy, Frank, Taurus ( preceeded in death) and Sheneta. The feelings that come with being an only child lead Barbara to make a decision to have a large family of her own, and included one adopted son Tyrone Butterfield.
Along the way, Barbara enjoyed a strong connection with many friends from her career in banking at Chase Federal Bank, friends from the Bahamas and in her later years new friends and relationships in Los Angeles California, where she lived for 14 years before returning to Florida in 2009. She loved life and was as one friend described her, "A Secret Keeper" for many. The measure of a woman is demonstrated in how widely she extends her heart to others in need. As a mother, Barbara was intimately involved with all of her children. She skillfully lead each of them to believe that they each was her favorite. Barbara was active and a leader among the senior group at Telecu Las Flores, an active seniors community in California. She was a Life Member of The National Council of Negro Women, Member of the San Fernando Valley Chapter of the NAACP and a Founding Member of Sisters at the Well.
Her Memory: Barbara leaves to cherish her memories her 93 year old mother, Mildred McKenzie, daughters, Debra ( Bruce), Barbara ( Stanley), Alicia and Sheneta. Barbara sons, Nathaniel ( Cheryl), Anthony ( Reenae), Paul ( Adrienne), Randy (Jessica), Frank, Tyrone ( Anne). She will also be dearly missed by her sister, Sally Jones, 13 grand children and 9 great grand-children, a sister -in-law Castella, and host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends in Florida, the Bahamas and California.
