It is with a heavy heart that we share this sad news. On February 18, 2025, Blake McKinney, 57, passed away in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida after a courageous battle with ALS. Blake lived a life filled with adventure, warmth, and generosity.
Born on February 28, 1967, in The Dalles, Oregon, Blake was a loving son to Jean and Malcolm McKinney. Raised on the McKinney Ranch, Blake grew up along-side his brothers Bryan McKinney (wife Kim; children, Mason and Bri) and Brent McKinney (wife Sandra; children Grant and Mitchell).
Graduating from Sherman High School, Blake went on to attend Oregon State University, majoring in Communications, and enjoying his time in the Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity and creating so many college memories with his close, life-long friends. After college, Blake enjoyed a wonderful career in the Events industry both in Oregon and Wisconsin and then transitioned into becoming a successful Realtor.
Blake was a proud father (with Kris McKinney) to their 3 children - Baylor (24), Turner (22) and Emersen (20) - who brought him an immense amount of joy and happiness. Blake loved to spend time with his kids and was up for anything that was of interest to them. An avid fan of horror movies, Blake enjoyed the thrill of a good scare and often shared his enthusiasm with his kids.
Blake loved exploring new places, spending time with his family and close friends and meeting new people. Whether it was boating on Pewaukee Lake or exploring the newest restaurant in Ft. Lauderdale, he was always game for an adventure. His love for staying active extended to working out, which he pursued with dedication. He never missed a workout and made his health and wellness a priority.
Those who knew Blake will remember him as kind, supportive, and caring—a person who brought people together and made them feel valued. His presence will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all whose lives he touched.
We hope you can join us for a Celebration of Life in Blake’s honor on March 6, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at The Atrium located at 2107 E Capitol Drive in Shorewood, Wisconsin.
In lieu of flowers, Blake’s family has chosen two areas near and dear to Blake’s heart: The ALS Association and the Sherman County Education Foundation. You can donate in Blake’s name by clicking here or you can send a check payable to The Blake McKinney Student Leadership Fund. You can send the donation to Sherman County Education Foundation, PO Box 68, Moro, OR 97039.
Blake’s family would like to express a heartfelt thank you to his partner, Francisco Pifano, who provided the best love and care for Blake throughout his ALS battle. The family is forever indebted to the love and selflessness he provided.
Blake’s family and friends loved him as much as he loved his family and friends. We couldn’t have asked for a better father, son, brother, or friend, and we will miss Blake every day. His memory will live on in the hearts of all those who loved him. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him.
