She received her early education at St. Joseph Catholic School and was involved in many school and church activities. She graduated and began her high school education at Aquinas College. Everyday she would bike to school with her sister Sandra. On her final year she was given a car by her brother Mike and she would drive her blue Austin to school. She enjoyed her high school years and the many plays and productions put on at the then Garfunkel Auditorium.
The week after graduation she began her employment at Citibank. She held various positions within the company. Her position allowed her to travel to Brazil, Argentina, Puerto Rico, Trinidad and Tobago, California and New York. She moved her family to New York where they spent 5 years. She was employed by this company until the day of her retirement in March 2015.
On May 6, 1972 she married her high school sweetheart Rudolph Bernard Sands. Shortly thereafter the couple welcomed a beautiful baby girl, Tamara and she was nick named “Tammy”. In October 1979 they welcomed a handsome baby boy Jameel. Carolyn was a diligent and dedicated mother and constantly looked after the affairs of her children and that of her family.
She was involved in many organizations in the church and worked tirelessly to ensure that everything was just right. She served in whatever capacity she was needed. Carolyn was fortunate to find love the second time. On December 23rd2010 she married David Virgil. These two were inseparable. They both served in their local church.
Carolyn loved to travel. By boat she and David took an annual cruise to where the Virgil family vacation went or wherever they decided to go on their own. By plane she made numerous trips to Florida to visit her children and then to wherever the spirit led that year, Quebec Canada, New Orleans and many others.
In July 2018 she was diagnosed with cancer and she was determined to fight. However, after eighteen months she could fight no more. On Tuesday February 4th, 2020 she lost her battle and passed quietly away with her loved ones by her side. May her soul rest in peace.
