Chinnamma Kuruvilla, known as Ammachi, was born on September 14th, 1927 to the late Mr. Varghese Mathai and late Mrs. Sarah Mathai in Ayroor, Kerala, India into the Cherukara Family. Ammachi was the youngest of eight siblings, four brothers and four sisters. After her formal education in India, she married the late Mr. PM Kuruvilla, Perangattu house. She resided in Malaysia with her husband until 1970 then returned to Ranni, India until 1983. Ammachi migrated to the United States in 1983.
She was blessed with four children Rajan, Late Monie, Late Annie, and Jolly, their spouses Thankamma, Mohan, Babu and Nirmal. Her family continued to grow:
- Grandchildren: Aby, Jason, Seena, Sereena, Shallin, Josh, Jerry, Diana, and Destin
- Spouses of Grandchildren: Vigi, Vincent, Lini, Jeena, Reba, and Jamie
- Great Grandchildren: Rachel, Adi, Luca, and Olivia
Ammachi was an active member of the Mar Thoma Church in both India and the United States. She organized and attended countless prayer meetings and church events, including fasting prayers. She found solace and inspiration in the teachings of her faith and her deep involvement in the church was a testament to her unwavering commitment to living a life of service, love, and devotion to God. The impact she made within her church community will be remembered for generations to come, as she truly exemplified what it means to live out one's faith with grace and passion.
Our beloved Ammachi cherished her family above all else and found immeasurable joy in spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed cooking, listening to devotional songs, coloring, puzzles, sewing and reading.
She greeted everyone with delicious snacks, meals and chai she lovingly prepared, never letting anyone leave with empty bellies. Her warm smile and gentle nature brought a sense of comfort and happiness that had a way of making everyone feel loved.
Ammachi departed this world peacefully on July 3rd, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. The time we spent with Ammachi was a true blessing. Her absence will be deeply felt by family, friends, and the community. Though we mourn the loss of our Ammachi, we take comfort in knowing that she is at peace and her spirit will forever guide and protect us. We will cherish her memory, carry her love in our hearts, and strive to make her proud every day.
