Tumminello, Constance, "Connie" former Staten Islander, 79, of Port St. Lucie, Florida, has passed away on Sunday 1/4/15 in the care of Catholic Hospice at Holy Cross Hospital, Fort Lauderdale, due to complications of pneumonia. An only child of Valerie and Frank Macaluso she learned at a young age to take care of others. She took care of her sick mother as a young woman and matured early. Her mother Valerie passed away while she was only 16.
Connie lit up a room with her heart, smile and kindness. She lived her life to the fullest. Never being idle, her nickname was "on the go Connie". She loved the beach, traveling, being with friends and always making sure family and friends were ok. Her favorite time of the day was late in the afternoon sitting on the beach. She was married to Dominic Tumminello for 51 years who had passed away in 2011. They are now together again and are survived by Jennie, Michael, Dominic, and Dominic III "DJ" her only grandchild.Connie was raised in Staten Island and attended New Dorp High School where she met her dearest friends who she stayed in contact with throughout the years. She worked at Staten Island Hospital for more than 20 years. Connie was also a kidney transplant recipient with 19 lucky bonus years to brag about. She was a very strong woman and was always fighting back against the odds. She was known to have a gypsy soul; she could not sit still - she bought and sold a number of houses to raise her family in the best neighborhoods of Staten Island.
She moved to Florida with Dominic in 1996, they made many new friends in Port St. Lucie at the Lake Forest Community and was very active with St. Bernadette Church from the early beginnings of the parish. Connie committed time to the American Cancer Society Relay For Life, volunteered in the St. Vincent De Paul thrift shop and was ready to make her famous chicken soup for any of her friends who were not feeling well! She loved playing Mahjong and Bingo with "the girls" and going out for happy hour and dinner after their games.
Connie was always concerned for her family and friends and was always ready to offer her words of advice "be good to yourself."
She will be dearly remembered by all, no matter how brief or long of a moment they shared.
