A year has come and gone. You are missed, my friend.

It always felt great to be with Doug. He was a good spirit.  A good friend. It makes me feel happy to see him in this photo. He will be missed by many.

Donna, we are so sorry for the loss of your happy, smiling Dougie! We didn’t know him well but that’s what I remember.  The backwards hat, and the big smile, and his I don’t give a hoot relaxed attitude.  I’m sure you have so many memories to hold precious.

Hey Dougie

So so tough to try writing this, I don’t know, it doesn’t seem right to start losing friends…. 
Friends for over 50 years, roommates for about 2 years on E. 78th Street…
You may not have known it, but I always admired (and was probably was a bit jealous) of your personality, how much everyone loved you, wanted to be your friend.  From Shell Bank softball, to hanging out at McDonalds, the Projects, etc…. You were the Captain. 
After Canarsie, we kind of went on with our lives in different directions.  But I always looked forward to visiting you once you moved down to Florida, and when you came up north.  I am very thankful I got to talk to you like 2 weeks before you passed…
R.I.P. my old friend….  No more pain, no more suffering….  Love you Dog….  🙏❤️‍🩹🙏

Doug and I traveled through Europe when we graduated high school in 1972. The picture above was taken at the apartment of someone we met in Spain through mutual friends.  We spent 2 months side by side traveling by rail and staying in cheap youth hostels. It was an opportunity of a lifetime back then. As we grow, we all go in different directions to find our way but through our journeys our friendships remain as strong as they were when we were kids.. Love you Dougie.

We had fun all through life, with our brothers, in and around our building and our neighborhood and wherever life lead us.

This picture was taken at ShellBank Jr. High School in the early 70’s. Dougie was the captain , statistician and terrific 3rd baseman. The starting team.

I considered Dougie one of my Besties. As teenagers  growing up in Sheepshead Bay - spending many days and nights having great times doing a lot of wrong things @ McDonalds, The Projects, Sheepshead Bay HS field, handball & basketball courts, 286 Park, Foursome Diner, Canarsie, etc. etc. etc.  Somehow we survived it all… 
As years past we headed in different directions, but sometimes that’s life’s reality. I will always think of Dougie from those days in positive way…
My condolences to Bugs, Shari, Donna and all his friends. 

Doug you’ll be missed by many!!! See you in the next life….

Death Be Not Proud. 
From the moment I met Doug….more than 40 years ago…..I intuitively knew he was a good guy. At times misguided…..at times, rough around the edges….but a vulnerability and kindness that lay under the always tanned, always cigarette chewing, always bandanna adorned Dougie. People say, “You make your own luck”,  Doug was indeed lucky. He lived his life on his terms.. In the end, he died on his terms, as well. He was born lucky as he was adored by his mother, Renee, and ultimately found his soulmate in Donna….the greatest love of his life. 
Doug made his mark on many and will be remembered by all. May he find eternal peace…..

You were the first person we met when we moved to Florida, you and Donna treated us like family, have holidays together, birthdays together, cookouts at your house, you came to see me every day and just talked for hours, I enjoyed all your stories, the hugs and smiles that we shared are solely missed, I’m glad I got to text you on Friday the 23rd and tell you ILove You! I miss my bestest friend in the whole wide world!!! Rest in peace my friend!

Dougie was always there.  My whole life. Kind and gracious always to me. A wonderful friend. It was always nice to spend time with him. Brenda and I loved Dougie, and we love Donna. I miss him dearly. My friend always.
