He was born on December 2nd, 1923 in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, the son of Charlotte R. (Perkins) Gabriel and Roy Elmer Gabriel. Earl grew up in Owen, Wisconsin with his sister Rowene and graduated from Owen High School.
He enlisted in the United States Army in 1943 and was a veteran of World War II where he witnessed the horrors of the Buchenwald Concentration Camp in Germany as it was liberated.
Earl moved to Florida after the war and first lived in Jacksonville and worked for a Lincoln dealership. That is where he acquired his taste for the Lincoln Continental and always had a yellow Lincoln Continental throughout his life. Later he moved to Fort Lauderdale where he worked as a bartender at a Boca Raton resort for years and met the love of his life, his wife Dore, as well as other celebrities and stars. Dore and Earl were married in April 1956.
Earl and Dore loved to travel on cruises and went on a cruise every year for their vacation. First, they would drive to Wisconsin in their Lincoln Continental every September to visit his mother, sister, and family bringing along their Maltese Dukie one of several they loved over the years.
Later on, Dore, a talented seamstress, developed a very successful swimwear business. Earl, her number one supporter, helped her with the business by making trips to the post office to mail packages to customers. Dore passed away in July 2014 and Earl missed her dearly.
Earl continued living in their home in Fort Lauderdale, keeping in touch with his sister before she passed away and his sisters-in-law. He enjoyed watching the old westerns on TV, and following the Green Bay Packers watching their games on Sundays during football season.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dore (Dorothea L. Carstens), his parents, Roy E. Gabriel and Charlotte R. (Perkins) Gabriel, and his sister, Rowene C. Mahoney. He is survived by his sisters-in-law, Rita Williams and Karin Butts, and brother-in-law, Peter Carstens, as well as nieces, nephews, and friends who knew, loved him, and will miss him. Earl was laid to rest next to his wife Dore in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
