Elba was defined by her love of family. This, with a strong sense of faith devoting over 13 years of service to the Archdiocese of Miami. Her "light" that shinned so bright was evident to all who knew her.
Elba is survived by her husband, William Nieves of over 60 years; her children Jorge O. Velez, Marylou Vanslette and Myriam Nieves; her grandchildren Jorge A. Velez, Kayla M. Vanslette, Gabriela Velez, Jeanne M. Vanslette, Abigail Velez; Greatgrandchildren Carter J. Hunt.
She lived well, laughed often, and loved deeply.

Funeral Service at 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm, with a live stream available at https://wellcelebratedlife.com. Committal Service will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, 2401 Davie Rd, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33317, US, on April 13, 2026, from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm.
