Emily, more properly termed "Ms. Botta" from my angle, brought a centeredness to her teaching; the exquisite warmth of her classroom existed because of this.  My son knew her as a teacher before I did.  He’d tell stories of the stories she taught. He’d speak of how adventurous, fun, and young she was.  It was nice to hear he had such an inspiring English teacher. 

When I finally got to meet her she wasn't even there. It was just me in her room familiarizing with the sub-plans, waiting for students and wondering about my first day in high school…  It was a golden lesson, Roald Dahl’s “Lamb to the Slaughter”- the favorite of the stories I’d heard about just one year prior.  Giggled reactions and shocked looks were gifts to see. Her room glimmered, evidence these students had such an inspiring English teacher.

Emily in person- her optimism, strength, and willingness to give to others spoke clearly. A born role model, she always included and helped me feel empowered. Her gift was for everyone, always making time, always teaching us with such inspired kindness.

The only chapter I can’t appreciate is this last one. It’s too hard on the reader; the ironies are far too dramatic. You remain a born role model- optimistic, strong, and willing.  Each of us is incredibly blessed knowing you- our adventurous, fun, inspiring Emily.

This is one of those memories I will always cherish — all of us together, swimming, smiling, laughing, and simply enjoying family time.

There was nothing complicated about it. Just sunshine, water, happy faces, and the kind of togetherness that reminds you what really matters. Moments like this become even more special with time, because they hold the love, joy, and connection we were lucky enough to share.

One morning I woke up at Jamel’s place and she offered to make me breakfast or coffee. Someone who would open up her home and offer the world. I really got to know Emily over the past year and she was great. Truly a bright light taken too soon. Gonna miss you Em

Emily embodied being of service to others, being a leader in the community, and being a friend to all. I was so honored to spend time with her  at community service events, during our family time, and generally out in the world. She won many awards for excellence in service, yet was always surprised and would humbly accept the honors. The community looked up to her in so many ways, and loved her dearly. The Alpha Phi Omega community was better for having her in it. 

On a personal note, Emily was one of my dearest friends. Her compassion and optimism brought so much light to my life. The world is a little more dull now that she is gone, but I truly believe her love will continue to spread and slowly make the world a better place.

What a beautiful tribute to a beautiful soul. I can imagine Emily seeing again. No pain, and healed. Her bright light here will be kept alive by the memories and sharing the impact she made on so many lives. Jamel, what a lucky man you are to have had a soul mate like Emily love you. Her eyes would light up when talking about you. You made her life better, as I imagine she made yours better.

Emily was truly a one of a kind! I had the pleasure of getting to know Ms.Botta during her first year as the National Honor Society Adviser when I was President in 2022. In that year she taught me more than any classroom lesson could, she taught me how to be compassionate, kind, and strong. Beyond school conversations I remember her silly stories about keeping a pack of press on nails in her car ready for when she would be proposed to or the selfless she showed when even though she never weighed enough to give blood at our NHS blood drives she would always try! I have held her in my prayers both as an educator and mentor for the past four years. My well wishes go out to her family. She truly touched so many lives and I know her memory will live on through her students!

At a young age, Emily’s strong determination was clear. My favorite memory is of Emily at age 7. She was insistent about going on Aerosmith’s Rock n’ Roller coaster at Universal Studios. Being on the petite side, Anthony and I were dubious she would make the height requirements to get on the ride with us. With a bright smile, she convinced us to stuff her shoes with tissues to gain any inch she could to ensure she would not miss out on the fun. The plan worked and after hours of waiting, Emily and I found ourselves strapped in and ready to launch. Only when it was too late to get out of it did she confide in me that she was actually quite scared. I was 21 at the time and assured her that she was SAFE, STRONG and BRAVE. We survived the ride and she got the bragging rights of being the most fearless little girl we knew. Fast forwarding to three years ago, and Emily shared that during her first round of treatments and testing, the words SAFE, STRONG and BRAVE became a mantra for her in the scary times of her battle with AML. We wore our bracelets with these words, prayed and believed in them. But it just was not enough. I can’t believe Emily is gone. How I wish that we could go back and be convinced that the scariest times ahead were that of Aerosmith’s Rock n’ Roller Coaster. Everyone that knew Emily, knew she was never to be deterred by a challenge. She accomplished so much in just 29 years. She touched so many and made such an impact on the lives that she touched, mine included. I will miss the sweetness of her voice, the brightness of her smile, and the joyfulness she brought to all of our lives. She was someone my children looked up to and loved. They will miss our visits, pool side manicures and fun splashing around in the ocean with her. And me, Emily I will miss you and love you forever. My heart is broken now that you are gone. May God hold you in his arms. I know you are with Him now, without pain, running, soaking the sunshine and smiling down on us.

My deepest condolences to her family and closest friends. Emily loss is one that will take time to heal. I had the privilege of caring for her, and I remember telling her, during the Christmas season, “Emily, you are the reason I continue to have faith and believe in miracles.”

Emily’s resilience, kindness, and optimism were truly inspiring. Her will to live was contagious, she always carried a smile, even in her hardest moments. As her nurse, I can say with certainty that her spirit and the memories she leaves behind will stay with us forever.

Even though I wish your story had ended differently, I choose to believe you are healed in heaven, running freely, with a big, beautiful smile.

Emily’s passing is a profound loss. Despite many challenges, she met each one with quiet courage and unwavering resolve. She moved through life with a warm smile and a spirit that uplifted everyone she encountered. She carried hope in her heart, offering a powerful example of faith, resilience, and grace. 

We mourn the loss of a beautiful soul on earth, even as we find comfort in believing that an angel now watches over those she loved. May her memory be a blessing and her legacy of kindness and strength continue to inspire us all.

Emily is one of the warmest people I have had the pleasure of knowing. She was an amazing friend throughout high school and college. Anyone who has spoken to her knows that she has such a uniquely positive way of starting a conversation that makes you feel seen and heard. If everyone had her character, I can only imagine how perfect the world would be. To Anthony, please know that Emily's impact on others is far and wide and not limited by time or space. I am forever grateful for Emily’s support and for the time we shared when I started teaching at PBHS. I was lucky to observe her classes, and I will always treasure that memory because she was an amazing educator. I will also always remember our long walks to school on planning days, and I hope she is somewhere on a beach with her turtles, at peace and surrounded by the beauty she deserved. Emily was the kindest, brightest soul. I am honored to have known Emily and volunteer alongside her during our time in Alpha Phi Omega at FSU. Her heart was always in the right place for helping others and making the world a better place. Emily was one of the first "brothers" I met in APO, and the first thing I learned about her was her love for sea turtles! I'm forever grateful in the mentorship and friendship I found alongside her, being apart of her service squad in APO and having my own heart grow for service through her guidance and support.

I know you don’t know me that well. I know I’m someone who is friends with your college best friends and roommates and I never really got the opportunity to get to know you. I wish I did. You are such a beautiful person inside and out. You have a heart of gold and constantly were shining your light in the lives of others. I have been thinking of you a lot these past few days. You came to visit me in NOLA while you were in college and stayed at my house with Megan and Lauren. I remember taking you to the bookstore on my favorite street. I told the owner of the bookstore about you today. About how excited you were being inside the local bookshop. I think you got like ten books and it was adorable hearing you rave about it. You were a really special person, so positive through everything. I’m sorry that I didn’t get to know you better, it was a huge loss on my part. I’m sorry that things had to end this way for you. I hope you are somewhere beautiful with your mom right now. Thank you for being a light in the lives of my friends and so many others. Love you girl.

Ms. Botta was one of the first teachers I had when I arrived at Pompano Beach High School. She taught me how to become a better writer and listener, and also how to open up in class. I will always cherish our time together, although it was too short.

I ran track at Pompano Beach High School for four years and continued doing so in college. In high school, after every PR, Ms. Botta would write down my new time and give me a sticker. She supported me from the very beginning all the way to the end. She was the type of person you only meet once in a lifetime , the kindest, happiest, and most amazing teacher I have ever had, and truly one of a kind.

I would talk to her for hours about everything on my mind, and she would always listen intently and eagerly. She was the epitome of what it meant to be a teacher and mentor. She stayed positive all the way until the end, and she was the only teacher I ever kept in contact with. She always showed up for me, even when she was sick. This photo was taken at my first college track meet, and I will always cherish it and remember her fondly. She was truly an amazing and wonderful woman.

One conversation I remember especially fondly was when she showed me her Pinterest board for her wedding. She spoke about her significant other and her family with so much love and happiness. Ms. Botta was so full of love and joy, and I will miss her deeply. Everyone who knows me, or has crossed paths with me, knows about Ms. Botta. I was always proud to be her student and mentee.

My thoughts and prayers are with her family at this time. Ms. Botta will forever be in my heart. God bless 💕🕊️

Emily was a wonderful contributor to our English department at PBHS from the moment she stepped in Dr. Bromery’s class as a student teacher. Her creativity, professionalism, and spunk had such a positive influence on her students and all of us privileged to be her colleagues. She and her family, friends, and loved ones have been and will always be in my prayers.

There are so few people in this world who have the light that beamed from Emily. She was so tenacious yet genuinely kind. She fought so hard to live her life, and somehow smiled through the pain. Although a generation of children were robbed of having her as their incredibly loving teacher, those students she did get to impact will carry a piece of her light forward 💕 My love to her family.

Emily was determined to continue to have an impact on students, even as she fought her battle. Her love for education and the impact she could have never waned 💜

I want to offer my deepest condolences to Emily’s family, friends, and her amazing partner, who stood by her side through everything. Emily was such a kindhearted and remarkable person whom I met through my mom, as she was once her student teacher.

One of my favorite memories of Emily was when I joined her and my mom on a trip to a teachers’ convention in Anaheim, California, in November 2022. Emily was vivacious, soft-spoken, and adventurous. One evening, when my mom and Emily had some free time, we drove to Huntington Beach and put our feet in the water. It was our first time setting foot in the Pacific Ocean, and we had the best time drawing hearts in the sand and running up and down the beach until our legs hurt.

On our last night there, we had dinner together in the hotel lobby where we were staying. We spent the evening talking about our lives, laughing, and enjoying each other’s company. Those moments are memories I will always cherish.

Emily fought so hard throughout her battle, yet she continued to smile every time I saw her. She was truly a trooper. Emily was incredibly passionate about teaching, and I am so grateful she was able to share that passion with her students during the time she had.

Emily will truly be missed. While her loss is heartbreaking, I find comfort in knowing that she is finally pain-free and reunited with her mother.

Ms. Botta was one of my favorite teachers when I attended Pompano Beach High School, and the only teacher I felt comfortable talking to there. She was incredibly kind and always treated me like one of her own kids, even though I sometimes got into trouble in her class. Despite that, she was super supportive helping me with difficult classes, studying for chemistry tests, and even sitting down to talk when I was feeling upset or sad at school.
When I first heard she would be absent for a while during my sophomore year, I decided to create a big poster where students from our grade could write get well messages to show how much she meant to us. The last memory I have of her is when she returned to Pompano and sat down with me to catch up on everything from freshman to senior year. She told me she was proud of how far I had come and was excited for me to walk the stage at graduation. 
Seeing how happy she was after the ceremony meant so much to me, and I’m grateful she was able to be there to see me graduate. My condolences to her loved ones she was an amazing person and truly one of the most caring people you could ever ask for.

Ms. Botta was my freshman year english teacher. She was the first person to encourage me to step outside of my comfort zone. Ms. Botta is the most welcoming and supportive woman I have ever met. I will never forget the day she came back to school and recognized me from my voice and laugh alone. Ms. Botta has the sweetest heart and the most beautiful soul. She will always inspire me to be kind hearted, gentle, and proud with myself and others.  My condolences to close friends and family of Ms. Botta.

Ms. Botta was truly an exceptional teacher and most importantly, a wonderful human being. I remember being so nervous as I first stepped foot into my 2nd period Pre-AP English 1 class during my freshman year of high school, but all that worry soon faded away as I became more comfortable in what used to be one of my weakest subjects, all thanks to Ms. Botta’s thoughtful teaching style. Her manner of speaking was always so sweet and you could tell that she was very passionate about the Language Arts. I am very grateful to have met such a beautiful soul in my lifetime and I hope she rests in peace. We love you forever and fly high, Ms. Botta.

Ms. Botta was an amazing teacher. She was so patient and kind to all of her students. I had her my freshman year of high school and i remember her class making me feel like high school wouldn’t be so bad after all; considering i had such a supportive teacher who wanted all of us students to succeed. She later came back to visit during my junior year of high school and I will cherish that memory and the many others forever.

Ms. Botta was amazing. I first came to know her as my 9th grade English teacher and the advisor for NHS. Years later, she came back in my senior year to talk about the Silver Knights Award where I was one of the students helping her around to classrooms. I still remember her asking me who I was and when I responded with my name, I was surprised she remembered me clearly. She asked how NHS was, and I told her that I was the current president. She said that NHS was in good hands. Her pushing forward through her struggles inspired me, and I remember that moment so well because it embodied how unpredictable and precious life was. We will keep working hard and treasuring life in her memory.

Firstly, my condolences to any family members or friends of Ms. Botta. Ms. Botta was my teacher my freshman year of high school. My personal Ms. Honey. She was one of the sweetest and genuine people I have ever met. She cared for each one of her students and always had an open ear, despite her own personal battles. She would still pop up around school even though she wasn’t a teacher anymore and always had a smile on her face. As I keep her in my prayers, I’ll never forget what she did for me.💕💕💕
