I am deeply sorry to learn of Bill's passing. I met Bill and Miriam while attending Sunday mass with my mom at St. Andrew's Church in Bayonne New Jersey. Bill was a great man who loved his family very much. My sincere condolences to Miriam and family.

Tio Bigote the memories of my childhood would be incomplete without you in our daily lives growing up. You truly made every weekend memorable for us three little monkeys ( like you use to call us) and was the best roommate a little boy could ask for. The countless hours building puzzles and gathering coins and stamps from around the world ,learning the Tio method of catogorizing them and storing them in  repurposed containers  with our fancy labeling system. How about his famous Sunday night jingle "SCHOOL TOMORROW", I now know Tio, it was more for you to get ready to be apart from us. This meant our weekend was over and you had to go to work and The three little monkeys to school. Thanks to you and your camera our childhood was caputered and the memories of those times are forever in  photo books . Tio I will miss you  and I know that you are at peace with all of our family. Love your little monkey Aldo.

I was two years old when my mother, Carmen Suerio passed away of breast cancer. My brothers, Guillermo and Manuel, ages nine and seven respectively, and myself were set adrift in the world with only our father, Jesus Suerio, to guide us. My dad worked tirelessly to provide for us, but of course this pulled him away and we didn't get to spend much time together as a family.
Of the three of us, Guillermo felt the loss of our mother and the absence of our father the deepest. However, he refused to wallow in tragedy and instead channeled that sadness into love for Manny and I. He refused to let our mother fade away, and honored her by seeking to be everything for us that our parents couldn't be. He refused to let the loss that weighed upon him impact us, and instead was determined to make up for everything he knew we'd be missing.
Soon after, my father decided it would be best to enroll Manny and Guillermo in a boarding school, and to send me off to live with my Aunt Lola. I remember that whenever we went to visit Bill he would be crying, just because we were all together again., He told my father that he had no interest in formal education if it meant it would separate us all. As always, Guillermo was the embodiment of selflessness; anything that would fracture our family further simply wasn't worth pursuing. My dad allowed Guillermo to forgo school and instead he began working to help support us. 
Without an education, the opportunities available to Guillermo were limited, but that didn't slow him down at all. He found work as a dry-cleaning delivery man in Cuba. While his work may not have been glamorous, it was Bill's shinning personality that lead to the next development in his life. He'd come to meet Charlie and Katie Casais, residents of Bayonne who wintered in Cuba, who saw something special in Bill. They'd soon sponsor his immigration to the United States, where Guillermo would lay the groundwork Manny and I to follow.
I arrived in the United States in 1961, only seventeen years old with nothing to my name and no one to rely on. It should come as no surprise that Bill, only twenty-four himself at the time, was waiting for me with open arms. 
Often when we reflect on the life of a loved one passed, we can see a common thread running through from beginning to end. For Guillermo, that thread, the constant which defined him, was his kindness, his gentle way, and his open heart. Guillermo may not have been a parent himself, but he certainly knew how to love like one. At the age of nine, he put aside his own sadness and wellbeing to care for and provide for his Manny and I. In years to come he would be so much more than an uncle to my children. As ever, I look upon Bill's life with nothing but the utmost pride and admiration. 
Bill dedicated his life to his family, and honored our late mother in everything he did. Guillermo was unassuming, soft-spoken, and utterly good. It is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to man who exemplifies the very best of us. He was a mother love when a mother was taken away. He was a father strength when a father was forced to be absent. Guillermo's achievements in life don't exist on a plaque or a trophy. If you wish to see the sum of Guillermo's life, look to the family he helped create and my children and I, whom he so inspired.
We will miss Guillermo dearly, but like him, we will not let that sadness weigh us down. We will follow the example he set for us, and will carry him with us always.

Guillermo Sueiro was a soft spoken man with a gentle smile and a warm heart. He was a loving and tender husband, and is survived by his wife, Miriam, whom he treasured always. To his nephews and nieces, he was Tio Bigote, forever teasing them with his trademark, "School Tomorrow!" on late Sunday nights. To his grand nieces and nephews, he was simply kind, old Uncle Bill. 

Guillermo radiated an unmatched warmth and a simple kindness that is rare in today's world. His memory and wit were entirely unmatched, but even those gift were used always in the consideration of others. You could expect a call from Uncle Bill on any important date in your life, because if it was important to you, it was important to him. 

Guillermo valued his family and loved ones above all else, and it was obvious to those who knew him. Not one to miss an important family event, Tio Bigote could be found, camera in hand, arranging photos of everyone and anyone. Those who have seen those photos will smile knowing that of course, they were intermingled with a collection of his infamous food photos.

We will miss him dearly, and we honor Guillermo's life in our dedication to preserving his optimism and his overwhelming love.

Tio Bigote your love for us knew no bounds and I know that you knew how much we cared for you in return. You never passed up an opportunity to talk with me and I always cherished our conversations. I love and miss you already and you will always be with me.
