Henriquez Jean-Felix, affectionately known as Henry, Mon Oncle Henry, or Uncle Henry by family and friends, passed away peacefully at the age of 88 on February 17, 2026, at his home in Miramar, Florida.
Henry was born on July 3, 1937, in Jeremie, Haiti, to Joyeuse Jean-Felix and Raoul Balmir. He completed his primary studies in Haiti before beginning his early career working alongside his father as a mechanic. From a young age, Henry developed a deep appreciation for mechanics and working with his hands.
With the blessing of his family, as a young man in his early 20’s Henry immigrated to Brooklyn, New York in search of opportunities. While living in Brooklyn, he continued developing his mechanical skills and worked for several years as a ship mechanic for a shipping company. Eventually, he returned to his true passion—automobile mechanics—where he refined his craft and built a respected reputation as a gas station owner and working on cars.
Before coming to New York, his oldest child was born named Michel-Ange. While in New York, he met and married Marie Renande Charles. They were married on March 26, 1966 and were together for 57 years until her passing in 2023. They had their first born child together, Carleen and two years later, had their second child, Diane. They moved to Laurelton, Queens where they lived for 45 years. During this time they grew their family by welcoming their nephews Max and Scottie into their home and raised them from infancy as their own.
Throughout his life, Henry was a hardworking entrepreneur. He owned and operated several gas stations and auto repair shops in Brooklyn, New York. His first business was located at Conduit Avenue and Liberty Avenue, which he ran for three years. He later opened another gas and auto repair shop on Utica Avenue in Brooklyn, a location well known by regular customers, friends, and family who often stopped by not only for service but also for conversation and fellowship. His final repair shop was located in Lynbrook, Long Island, which he operated for approximately four to five years before retiring. In 2003, after many years of hard work, Henry and Nande relocated to their new home in Miramar, Florida, where they enjoyed their retirement years together.
Henry came from a large and loving family whom he deeply cared for and supported whenever they were in need. Family meant everything to him, and he cherished them wholeheartedly. His home in Laurelton was always open to relatives and friends, often serving as a welcoming place for family members immigrating from Haiti who needed a place to stay while establishing their new lives.
Both in New York and later in Florida, Henry loved hosting gatherings filled with laughter, music, and delicious food. He took great joy in bringing family and friends together. Those fortunate enough to spend time with him experienced his generous spirit, warm heart, and exceptional cooking. They also got to enjoy his passion for music. He spent countless nights with friends and family playing the guitar and singing his favorite songs.
Henry was a patient man always willing to offer advice and encourage those around him. Known for his kindness and humility, Henry had a special way of making everyone feel valued and welcomed. He lived a simple and meaningful life, appreciating the many blessings he received. His presence, wisdom, and warmth will be deeply missed, but his legacy will live on in the many lives he touched.
Forever in our hearts. Rest in peace.
