Known to most as Gregory or Greg, he was born in Georgetown, Guyana, to Erlene Gwendolyn Bobb and Charles Ignatius Clarke on June 27, 1960. He immigrated to the United States in the mid-1970s and attended Midwood High School in Brooklyn, New York, graduating in June 1979. Gregory immediately entered the workforce upon graduation, working in real estate.
In 1981, he married his first wife, Roxanne Ramessar, and in 1983, he, Roxanne, and their eldest daughter, Natalie, relocated to Miami, Florida. Gregory would settle in Miami, Florida, where he would continue working in real estate. He harnessed his love for math, his strong interpersonal skills, and his life-sized personality to expand his career into banking and mortgages. Gregory and family made Miami, and eventually Sunrise and Plantation, Florida, their home. During this time, they welcomed their second daughter, Charlene, and their only son, James Jr.
Gregory worked as a real estate agent at Pagliari Realty in North Miami for many years and later held management positions at Capital Bank and Regions Bank. He would eventually take on mortgages full-time and worked with Countrywide Home Loans before moving on to work independently. He returned to college in the early 2000s and earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Barry University.
In 2011, Gregory met his second wife, Dominique Augustin, and while Plantation, Florida, was their home, they enjoyed traveling, visiting family, and spending time cruising in the Caribbean. They married on December 7, 2025.
In his later years, Gregory reinvigorated his passion for real estate and worked as an agent for United Realty Group until his passing. He enjoyed life and loved people. His hobbies included fishing, traveling, attending UM and Florida Panther games, playing dominoes and blackjack, and spending time with his grandchildren. He never missed an opportunity to speak with a stranger and make a new friend.
Gregory was preceded in death by his mother, Erlene Gwendolyn Bobb; his father, Charles Ignatius Clarke; and his sister, Marva Sandra Sansculotte.
Gregory is survived by: his wife, Dominique Augustin; his children and their spouses, Natalie Elizabeth Dinkins and Jerry Dinkins, Jr., Charlene Nicole Bobb-Smith and Jassett Smith, and James Gregory Bobb Jr. and Vanessa Angeles; his grandchildren, Jerry Dinkins III, Jordan Smith, Justice Smith, Jael Smith, and Jurnee Smith; his siblings Ann Peters, Faye Bobb, Gail Bobb, Sean Bobb, Evette Bobb, Joshua Roach, and Stanley Clarke; his uncle, Jerome Bobb; his aunts, Lucille Roswell and Joycelin Bobb and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
