

Jane Frances Taprell Wynn passed away on May 6, 2015 in Pompano Beach, Florida at the age of 86. She was born on July 5, 1928 in Winter Haven, Florida to Sidney William and Erma Norvell Taprell. Jane spent her grade school years in Lakeland, Florida and later moved to Daytona Beach, where she graduated from Seabreeze High School in 1945. She then attended Florida State College for Women (later Florida State University) where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority and earned her Bachelor’s Degree, with a Major in Foods and Nutrition.
Jane married Warren Richard Wynn II of Fort Lauderdale, Florida in December 1950. They settled in Fort Lauderdale and were married for 63 years. As a young wife and mother, Jane was a leader in several Fort Lauderdale community service organizations and was a charter member and president of both Children’s Home Society and Junior Welfare Society. She was president of Junior Welfare Society when they initiated the Toyland Ball, which is still an annual event in Fort Lauderdale.
Jane was always very involved with her children’s activities and participated as Girl Scout leader, First Presbyterian Church choir mother, and was an active sports mom. When all of her children started school, Jane returned to work for the Broward County School System as a Food Service Supervisor. In 1983, she became the Director of Broward County Schools Food and Nutrition Services, a position she held until she retired in 2003. Jane was a lifelong learner and earned a Master’s Degree in Dietetics and Nutrition from Florida International University in 1977.
Jane was passionate about her career and was a national leader in her field throughout her life. She was Past President of both the Florida School Food Service Association and the American School Food Service Association. Jane also received the most prestigious national awards in her profession: the first Thomas P. O’Hare Legislative Award; the International Foodservice Manufacturer's Association Silver Plate Award for Elementary/Secondary Education; the National John Stalker Nutrition Award; the FAME National Gold Star Director of the Year Award; the Florida School Food Service Association Director of the Year Award; and in 2014, the FAME Gertrude Applebaum Lifetime Achievement Award.
After Jane retired in 2003, she remained actively involved in her profession and community. She enjoyed working with Prismatic Services as a School Food Service Consultant and visited school districts throughout the United States until February 2015. She continued to be involved with Florida Impact as a former member of the Board of Directors and was an active member of PEO Sisterhood, Chapter AH; Daughters of the American Revolution, Francis Broward Chapter; and the Rotary Club of John Knox Village.
Jane was predeceased by her parents, her husband Dick, sister Ordy Hendry, and brother Sidney Taprell. She is survived by her children: Sally Wynn Roegiers of Palm City, Warren Richard Wynn III (Laura) of Fort Lauderdale, and William Robb Wynn (Vito) of Pompano Beach, grandchildren: Amy Roegiers Mijoskov (Danny), Kathryn Jane Roegiers of Palm City, Jessica Ann Wynn, Warren Richard Wynn IV, William Thomas Wynn of Fort Lauderdale, great grandchildren: Ava Elizabeth Mijoskov and Jack Richard Mijoskov of Palm City, and several beloved nieces and nephews. Jane’s family was her pride and joy. Her grandchildren called her “Nini.” She will be greatly missed by her family, friends, and colleagues.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 30th, at 10:30 AM at John Knox Village Chapel, 200 Lakeside Circle, Pompano Beach, Florida, 33060. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Josephine Martin National Policy Fellowship, which helps support school nutrition professionals pursue their goals in the public policy arena.
