Jean was born in Boston, MA to Phillip and Vivian Tobey. She graduated from Medford High School, Medford, MA and was an active member of Community Baptist Church of Medford. There she met the love of her life the late Winston S. Lacey. They were married on May 20, 1950 and enjoyed 32 beautiful years of marriage.
Jean was a woman of many talents - a consummate homemaker and hostess who loved to cook, garden and knit. She also enjoyed a very successful second career as a Floral Designer for Publix Super Markets.
Ever the optimist and well-known for her radiant smile, Jean was happiest and at her best when helping others. She was a long time member of Davie United Methodist Church, where she sang in the Chancel Choir and served in the Feed My Sheep and Thrift Shop ministries. She was also active in Davie’s Hearts and Crafts group and contributed much to their charitable efforts.
Left to cherish Jean’s memory are her daughters, Elizabeth Lacey and Marti Aylsworth, both of Cooper City, her granddaughters Ashley (Matt) Seibel of Traverse City, MI and Heather Aylsworth of Miami, FL. She is also survived by her brother, Robert Tobey of Milford, NH and many nieces and nephews.
Our family wishes to acknowledge Jean’s caregivers at VITAS Hospice Team 155, Southeast Home Care and South Florida Inpatient Associates for their invaluable assistance during her extended illness.
Jean lived foremost for her family and was its’ bedrock and strength. It is with profound sadness that we bid farewell to a great lady; devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother and friend to many. She will be sorely missed.
