June Elizabeth Gallagher (née Kight), 89, of Coral Springs, Florida, passed away on April 1, 2026 surrounded by her loved ones. Born on June 18, 1936 in Miami, Florida, to Johnie Lee and Gertrude Kight, Sr., June lived a life full of love, travel and adventure.
As a child, “Junie” was doted on by her aunts Lorraine Queen and Kathleen Clark. June was very outgoing and made many lifelong friends, starting in elementary school. After graduating Miami Edison “Red Raiders” High School in 1954, June attended Florida State University College of Music/Vocal Studies to study Voice Performance. She moved to New York City to pursue her dream of singing professionally. However, career plans were put on hold when she met the love of her life, Frank. They were married in February 1958 and soon living in South Florida.
June was a stay-at-home mother for many years, involved in church, school, playing and teaching tennis, and enjoying all that life has to offer. A glamorous performer at heart, she could captivate an audience and charm family and friends with a cheerful whistle and a happy tune. When Frank retired and won a pub in Ireland, June was the first to say, “Let’s do it!” They moved to Bantry, Ireland and lived above the Kilgoban Pub for three years, making even more friends across the pond.
After Frank’s passing, June, lovingly known as “Yaya,” devoted her life to her daughters, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She is survived by: her daughters Susan Gallagher of Columbus, GA, Patricia Canadeo of Coral Springs, FL, and Teresa Gallagher of Blairsville, GA; grandchildren Kristen (Brett) Tuttle, Katherine (Phil) Seiter, Grace (Jayce) Nagel, Joseph Canadeo, and Kaitlyn Gallagher; great-grandchildren Madison and Monroe Tuttle and Blake and Quinn Seiter; her sisters-in-law Maureen McArdle of Springfield, VA, and Loretta Reardon of Little Silver, NJ; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
June was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Johnie Kight, Jr., and her adoring husband Frank. Visitation will be held at Fred Hunter’s Funeral Home, 718 S. Federal Highway, Fort Lauderdale, FL on Friday, April 10, 2026 from 3-6 PM. The Committal Service will be held at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Cemetery, 1500 S. State Road 7, North Lauderdale, FL on Saturday, April 11, 2026 at 9 AM.
