KM John Uncle was a man who radiated God's love and made sure all around him felt it. I attended the Bretheren church a few times as a child and he always made me feel welcome. When I was ill as a child I remember he came to my hospital bed to pray for me. When my parents fell ill and eventually passed, he came to sing and pray. He really ministered to all in the Malayali community of South Florida.  He was a wonderful person and will be missed. I pray we all can carry on a bit of his legacy, in showing kindness towards each other. God Bless his family and provide comfort in their grief.

One evening in 1962 we had 2 visitors at home. Uncle KM John &uncle Harold McGregor, both from Bandra Assembly. Bombay. We as a family started attending meetings at Bandra; and along with my younger brother (Evg. Dr. Koshy Mathew,Mumbai )we attended the Sunday School at Bandra. Uncle KMJohn was my Sunday School teacher. He was loved by all children because of his jovial and pleasant nature. In those years he was very popular in Bombay even outside our churches as an excellent translator. He was proficient in 3 languages.  English; Malayalam and Hindi. In 1964 when I expressed my desire in the church for baptism, uncle John used to visit us at Sewri to explain in detail about baptism. He took the lead on the day of baptism at Juhu beach. Dr. CV Baby conducted the baptism. 
I remember one day after meeting he took me for lunch at Mahim hostel where he was staying with other young believers of the church; and handed me a small gift. I am still grateful to him.
In 1975 before I left to Saudi Arabia, I visited him at Ebenezer Mulund. He prayed blessed me and I could feel the 
"warmth and love of a Teacher to his student " when he hugged me. 
For me he was a wonderful man. He encouraged me a lot. 
I praise God because he is with the Lord, the right place he ought to be. He has left behind his dear ones. They all need God's grace. May the God of all comfort give them the comfort they need.  Peace of God be with them. Specially aunty sons daughters in law and all other relatives.

KM John-achayan was a man of integrity and honor.  He did not maintain relationships based on who they were, but because of his big heart.  Whether you were 60 or 1, he would look you in the eye, have a word with you no matter how busy his schedule was.  He took time to call me at least once a week and wanted me to visit every time I was in Florida.  He was like an older brother to us and made me and my family feel like we were one of his own.  He would never say, think or feel otherwise. Our community has lost someone so dear, with the unique ability to unite and stay true to God's calling.  You have run this race so faithfully.  We will miss our visits, our conversations, but we know we will see you soon, dear brother.  Fill heaven with your warmth and laughter while we wait for our Savior's soon return! Evg: K.M. JOHN (Johny Uppappan as we fondly call him) was a man of honor in his walk with JESUS in this enduring world. He was eager to share the word of God with whom ever he came across in life. Johny Uppappan was always an optimistic and jovial person. 
We had the opportunity for knowing him for several years and was like one in the family. He kept to his word in the true sense of it, when he said something. We visited him at his hospital last week in Miami. 
At this time although we are saddened of his departure from his physical existence, we are anticipating on meeting again.

I know Dear KM Johnsir ( usually call Johnychayan) since I came Florida in 1992. He had unique life style in every aspect of his life. We travel together, eat together, joke together, in all these time he has his own way.  As a husband, father, grandpa, friend, brother, uncle more over a man of God he lead a   very faithful life . We are going to miss his laughter, jokes, descpline and sense of humor. Fondly  remembering Bro. K.M. John's   great smile, laughter, and love of God.  My Late husband Sam  and I had the pleasure of meeting him for the first time in Bombay, India.  Since then both our families journeys have led us to America with the opportunity to see one another on several occasions. We were so grateful that Bro. K M John was able to come to New York in 2004 for my husbands funeral. At this time my children and I wish to express our condolences to Kunjumol and children. Keeping you all in our prayers. Uncle KM John (Johnychayan, as people lovingly called him) had been an encourager, a true ‘Barnabas’. Though my first opportunity to meet him was only in 2002, he already been very close to us  from the  1980s. While we were in the tribal area, he might have been the first person from abroad to contact us. He then sent us a letter,  enquiring about our details, and it included some monetary gift and a family picture. Since then  he has kept the contact alive. 
I do cherish the warmth of welcome and hospitality at his home. He had his own peculiar way of interpreting the messages, embellishing the message with his own little contribution. Even as he was battling his sickness, he was joyous and radiated this joy to others. 
His home was always open for visitors, especially the evangelists from India.
Though he belonged to an earlier generation, he was modern in his thinking and approaches.

Auntie, our hearts go out to you,  in this your hour of anguish. The God of all comforts shall comfort you and the others in the family.

We will never forget our vist to Des Moines Chicago in 1989.Though Anita knew you before who is your niece. I was meeting you for first time. I was overwhelmed by your hospitality and courtesy you extended to us. The children were very small and amazing children And blessed. The relationship grew over the years during visits to India. And over phone. Jhonnychayan was supportive  and tenderloving each time he called he assured of us of the Hope and faith of Jesus  in his conversation

My Dear sister Kunjumolmmamma and Makkal, I  have good memories of  Johnychayan and Ammamma visiting us in my childhood days when we lived at Mazhukeer and Kallissery. My uncle Sunnyachayan and aunty (Johnychayan’s sister) were staying nearby those days. Also I remember the day which my dad told us about Johnychayan’s decision for Lord’s work. We have good memories about Kotoorethu family, especially Pappachayan. He was our hero while we were children. I remember all Johnychayan’s siblings and we had good relationship with them all. Everyone had a real zeal for the Lord’s work and they all worked hard to the extend possible for the propagation of gospel the good quality, which was inherited from their Father.  I have a feeble memory about Ammachy too.
 We met you at Chennai at Bony’s  wedding which was our last meeting. Johnychayan was a man of God and encouraged many for Lord’s work, I know. He was proud of his father and used to tell about his (Perissery Mathaichan) conversion at Chengannur in a meeting where Sadhu Sunder Singh preached. 
We bid farewell to Johnychayan with a glorious hope to meet you along with many of our dear ones soon with our Lord. 
We pray that our good God, Almighty may comfort Ammamma and all  the dear ones.  May God bless the viewing and Funeral Services,

K. M. John -my buddy

I first met K.M. John on 13th January 1968 while he was at the pulpit translating the message of the Lord’s servant, K. G. Kurian. The next day, on 14th January, the irresistible words of my spiritual father, KGK, led me to the Lord. John, the translator, was a young, energetic, lively young man of my age; proficient in three languages – Malayalam, English and Hindi – and a good speaker, we became friends soon. In my early days as a child of God he was very helpful and encouraged me to study the Word. As an elder in Sion Assembly, Mumbai, where we were in fellowship, he was a role model for many of us. 

Four years later, on 26th November 1972, the Lord called me to serve Him and a few minutes after that the Lord called John also. My spiritual father took both of us on a missionary tour of North India and introduced us to many Assemblies there. From 1973 to 1975 John and myself travelled together in the service of our Master. In 1975 he and his family migrated to US and continued till the last in the service of the Lord. 

My wife Thankam and I, were very close to John and Kunjumol (his wife). We followed John through his illness and was in prayer. But now that he is promoted to glory his sufferings in this world has come to an end. We pray for Kunjumol and the children. May our good Lord himself be their comfort during these days of bereavement.  
“I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen” (Revelation 1:18)

We are saddened to hear about the passing of our dear brother, Evg. K.M. John.  I came to know him when he migrated to Chicago with his family.  At that time, his dear brother the Late Pastor K.M. Ninan & his family were here in Chicago. Through them, I came to know this dear man of God.  

Evg. K.M.John was a servant of God, full of joy and passion for the Lord's service.  I had many occasions and good spiritual fellowship with him while he was here in Chicago. 
It was well pleasing to the Lord to call our dear brother to His presence.  
On behalf of the International Pentecostal Assembly, Chicago, and my family,  I express our heartfelt condolences to dear Sis. Gracy & children and all the family members. 

Due to unavoidable circumstances, I am unable to attend the home-going service, but my prayers are with you at this time. May the Lord comfort you all at this difficult time.

Evg. K. M. John has bid adieu with a lot of fond memories and a pattern of a life of passionate service to the Lord. Though he was stationed in the US, he would intently follow up the progress of the ministries in India, especially those in Kerala. He had great concern for the BBI ministries and would frequently inquire about its activities.  We gratefully recall his contribution in setting-up our library by donating the books that he had in India. We also cherish the memories of his fellowship with us and the ministry in 2014, during the thanksgiving service commemorating 25 years of BBI in service. 

We at BBI join the family members in this time of bereavement and pray that dear Aunty and children will be comforted by the hope of eternity with our Savior. 

Let us keep remembering the outcome of his godly life and emulate his faith and his reliance with absolute trust and confidence in God.

I know K.M Johnychayan since my childhood.came to know him more after we came to the US.
We had visited and stayed with him and his family several times when he was in different states.
Visited him in the hospital 2 weeks ago.We have nice memories about him.He was a kind hearted person with genuine love for everyone. Will miss his way of talking with a sense of humor. Praying for the grieving families.

We have known K.M. John uncle for the last five decades.  A very dear family friend who has been with us in times of joy and times of sorrow.  A real uncle who truly loved us.  He had that unique ability to make you feel that you are his favorite,  and he made you feel special.  He probably had more nephews and nieces, brothers and sisters in Christ than anybody that I can think of.  Uncle and aunty  were devoted to serving God's people and were given to hospitality.  A true friend who loved you at all times, who became a brother to you in times of adversity.  He felt your pain, comforted you and cared for you.  A humble servant of the Lord who faithfully carried out his God given responsibilities, and became a blessing to God's children everywhere.  We thank God for him.   Uncle we will miss you, especially your hearty smile and your warm embrace.                               May the  God of all comfort  , comfort the dear family and keep them in His embrace.


I knew him since I was little. My parents knew him when they moved to America in the early 90s. Ever since then, he always shared stories of the Gospel and of his life. We were always moved by his Godly presence and his love for the Word of God. May God keep him and his family in peace. 

Although, I desired to be physically present for the funeral circumstances would not allow, and I kindly ask if you could share the following thoughts on my behalf....

Our dear Brother K.M. John was a very close friend of mine, we met back in 1973 while in New Delhi.  In a few years, he would immigrat to the USA and our friendship would be renewed while attending the IBF Conference that was being held in Greenwoods Hill, PA and the years to follow our friendship continued to grow and remained close until his home calling.

I considered him as my older brother, a great man of God and a true brother in Christ.  He was a great source of encouragement and comfort, especially during periods of great sorrow.  I will also never forget of his willing spirit, as he conducted many marriage and funeral services for our family. 

I will greatly miss him but rejoice in knowing of the opportunity that awaits when we will meet him again in glory.

Lovingly we call him kizhakkethile Johnychayan. We are neighbors from kadampanad but we were more like a family. Right before we got to the US in 1997 , Johnychayan was on vacation and came over to our house and gave my children(I have 3 boys) a valuable lecture about the weather, school, seasons , etiquette etc. in USA.
He was someone who maintained contacts and very caring . We are going to miss him.

Please share the following thought for me at the funeral as I am not able to be present at the funeral.

DEAR ACHAYAN WAS A GREAT LEADER AND A GUIDE AMONG THE PEOPLE OF GOD. HIS LOVING BEHAVIOUR AND SMILE WAS ENCHANTING. WE WILL MISS HIM GREATLY IN THE DAYS TO COME.

He phoned our home some time back and requested that I visit Florida in my next U. S trip. I was making plans to come a week earlier to visit Florida assembly before attending the FIBA conference.
Anyway, He is relieved now from all his heart aches and is enjoying in the presence of the one he loved and served. Regards and love to Dear ammamma and all the family members.

I’m grateful for KM John Uncle and his desire to serve Christ Read the Word and always open his home for God’s servants ! He has a fiery and humour kid style of preaching always captured the audience ‘a attention it was the power of God’s Holy Sprit ! He always had a interest in young people conducted many marriages and proposals all for God’s glory he had remarked to me on many occasions son you don’t want to be changing diapers in your fifties a more truer statement has not been made in relation to encouraging children young adults and those contemplating marriage after post secondary studies wisdom from his own life !  Very few Keralites have his enthusiasm and ebullient character and nature ! For  my siblings  and I which one is his daughter-in-law Nancy  he made conferences so exciting interesting and plain fun! How he loved Oswald Chambers and his writings and the Oswald J Smith ! In fact he asked if I could get some books on his life and works he offered to pay I said no I will get them for you they are still in his library today! Enduring is his love of Christ and the Word from his father he learned of Christ who was immense  prolific preacher and hymn writer in his own right a generation before our beloved uncle ! Uncles brothers all served the Lord KM Ninan and KM Mathew to mention just a few ! It was great sadness for those of us who loved him he has gone but absent from the body present with the Lord what a glorious home coming for the servant of God . My self and my children Casey and Cathleen grieve with them his grandchildren’s first cousins . As we all grow older we long for heaven this world with all its trappings  means nothing it will all burn in the fire what we do for Christ will stand for eternity K.M. John Had his focus and energy on the Lord God have from the 1970’s to 1991 in Chicago then from 1991 -2019 in Florida his heart’s desire God honoured ! John 21:22  “ And all things whatsoever he shall ask in prayer believing he shall have “ ! 

Bro. KM John (Lovingly known as Johnychayan) is a very close family friend of mine since 1986. I have lots of fond memories in my heart. 
I considered it as a great privilege and honor to have him in our family as  a  dear servant of God, a bible teacher,  a preacher,  a mentor,  a true friend, an older brother and a great encourager.
We had a special Christian love for each other as many of you may have had as well. We enjoyed our sense of humor with one another whenever we met together.
We always had healthy and transparent conversations concerning spiritual matters for mutual edification. I am sure we all are going to miss him so dearly and it is very hard to think about his absence in our midst. There is no one to replace Johnychayan and his unique personality.
I commit dear Kochamma and all her dear sons and families in the Lords care and may the Lord give them strength and comfort in the days ahead.

We are grieved by the passing of our K M John. It seems like only yesterday when our families met, some 35 years ago. We were residing in Toronto, Canada and K M and his family were in Chicago, Illinois. And what began as a friendly acquaintance, wonderfully blossomed into a profound, familial bond. K M John became our brother - a cherished part of our family. His children grew alongside our own; we spent many good times together at Conferences or visiting each other's homes and we shared in one of the happiest moments of our lives - when our daughter, Nancy, married K M's eldest son, Stanley. And so, the canvas, that is our own life's story, continued to grow over the years that followed. And now, as our days on this Earth grow nearer too, perhaps our most salient memories are those we have shared in the love and care for our grandchildren, Cayla, Jared and Marissa.

We are presently far away overseas, preparing to travel to pay our respects. And though we grieve, we are also proud to celebrate K M John's life of service to thousands of people, over decades and across many oceans. K M had an immensely loving nature, and a convivial spirit. The twinkle in his eyes always sparkled as his beautiful smile came across his face. We watched in amazement as he easily navigated a path of relationship to all - young or old, from far and wide. And we learned so much from our brother - he had a swiftness of intellect, tempered by sincerity in all that he said or did. K M John, and his ever-loving and faithful wife, our dear sister Gracy (Kunjumol), worked as a team, in a life of sacrifice to a higher goal. And so, with tears of sorrow and yet happiness which comes from hope, we bid farewell to our brother, and look forward to the day when we shall meet again in Glory. May the beautiful soul of our loving K M John now rest in eternal peace with our Lord, our God and our Savior, Jesus Christ. Uncle K M John lived well and died well. 
He will be remembered for his sincere love and friendship. 
He loved the Lord and His ministry. 
We as a family enjoyed his company with Ammamma during their visits to Bahrain and Kerala. 
We spent a night with him in Florida during June 2018. He was eager to know the ministry reports and encouraged us in many ways.

I always called him Johnnyuppapan or Uppapan.
He was a gracious and humble servant of the Lord. He was a skillful expositor of the Scripture and an avid reader. He was very adept in translation, even from Bombay days. He mastered the English vocabulary and his humor was skillfully woven into the messages. 

He served as an evangelist, teacher, preacher and elder in the Brethren Assembly. 
He helped me in ministry and gave me solid counsel. A true mentor.
He was faithful to His Lord until the end.  
We’ll miss him dearly. 
He's now reunited with the other 4 brothers and 2 sisters of the Kotturethu family,  along with their father and mother - Perisherry Mathaichan and Achaymma - in the realms of glory.
