

Lorna M. Gray, nee Harper, was born on March 28th, a year and a week after her sister, in St. James, Jamaica. She was the second born daughter of Keith Harper and Winnifred Scott, sister to Beverly and John Harper.
Her family emigrated to the United States in 1952. She was a woman of two worlds. She attended Queens Highschool in Jamaica and later graduated from Erasmus Hall H.S In Brooklyn, NY and represented her school as Ms. Erasmus Hall. She graduated with four Honors Certificates in Art and one in English. She continued her education and received a Certificate in Computer Programming in 1965. She received her Associate in Arts Degree from New York City Community College in Brooklyn, N.Y. She Graduated from Hunter College with a Bachelor of Arts degree with a Major in Art and a Minor in English. She received her Master’s degree from NYU in Early Childhood education. She participated in a Study Abroad program in Southern France.
Her professional career included teaching Art and English in both Jamaica and the United States. She achieved a dream of having her own work being shown in a Gallery. She headed an Art Department, participated in Art Festivals and had private clients both in Art and Language. She enjoyed the Arts, including theater, particularly painting, drawing and photography.
In 1969 She married Maurice Gray and had two children Stephen and Jeanne-Elyse Gray. They chose to raise their family in Jamaica. They returned to the United States in 1977. She was creative and talented with a particular love for baking, design and raising her children. She also enjoyed Tennis, reading and sewing.
Lorna M. Gray, at the age of 73, died on December 9, 2020 in Plantation, FL. She was preceded in death by her Mother, Father and younger brother, John Harper. Lorna is survived by her sister Beverly Bent, Son Stephen, Daughter Jeanne-Elyse, her grandchildren Raquel, Alejandro, Dominique, Miguel Jr and Angelique, her Nieces and Nephew Sonia, Pamela, Robyn and Sean, as well as many grand niece’s and nephews.
A Celebration of love for her life will be held Wednesday, December 16th, 2020 at 10:00 am at Forest Lawn South, with live streaming available for those unable to attend.
Lorna will be dearly missed.
