of Puerto Cortes, in the Republic of Honduras, to Edward Daly and Juana Murillo. She was one of five children born of this union, including her two sisters, Amalia, and Rosa Antonia, and two brothers, Edwardo, and Ricardo.
In her early years in Honduras, as the result of her family’s living in a remote area,
of Cortes, where there were no schools, she was sent along with her sister Rosa, to live
in the city, with Ms. Dyna. While there she attended elementary school and learned Engllish. Her elementary education was cut short as she also had to work in Ms. Dyna’s household.
In La Lima, Honduras, in the late 1940’s, Adela secured employment in the hospital
as a nurses assistant, where she would gain valuable experience, and, work in a field she loved.
In 1950 she married the love of her life, in Teodoro Valentine Miller, also known as Ted or Teo. Adela immigrated to the U.S. in the late 1950’s, along with her husband Teodoro. While in the U.S., she went on to become a productive citizen. Unlike many immigrants from Latin America, she spoke English fluently, and remained fluent in both Spanish and English throughout her life. She lived most of her adult life in Brooklyn, New York.
One of her and most important jobs was from the late 1950’s to the early 1960’s, when she worked at Bethel Hospital (now Brookdale Hospital), as a nurses assistant and translator. Despite her limited education, she went on to become the official hospital’s Spanish to English translator. As a translator, she not only translated from English to Spanish and vice versa, but on occasion, she was also used to translate From Italian to English and vice versa. Consequently, she became an indispensable member of the
staff. After about 10 years of working at various jobs she retired to raise her’s and Teodoro’s three sons: Miguel Manuel, Dennis Valentine, and Cesar Augusto.
In 1988, Adela relocated to Miami-Dade, Florida, where she lived out the remainder of her adult life, alongside her husband, and subsequently was joined there by her sons, Cesar and Dennis, and mother-in-law, Recida, and sister-in law, Daphne.
Among her greatest qualities were love of family, and generosity. Her generosity
was apparent as she helped many family members to come to the U.S., including, Maria Elena, Rosa, Tulio, Miguel Aroldo, and both Edwardo the father, and Edwardo, the son. In addition, her home was always receptive and open to people. Although she tried other religions, she remained a loyal Catholic throughout her life. In sum, Adela was a kind, caring and and generous person.
Adela departed from us 14 November 2013, leaving to mourn her many loyal friends, and loved ones. She is survived by her sons, Miguel Manuel and Cesar Augusto; grandchild, Alexandra; step grandchildren and step great grand children, Anakaren, Ricardo, Irving, Joel, Nelson, Brenda, Jade, Destinyana, and Isaiah; brother and sister,
Edwardo and Rosa; nieces and nephews, Maria Elena, Norma, Marco Tulio, Blanca, Iris, Marvin, Loty, Gladyz, and Rene.
