

On March 29, 2014, Mariann Jean Kiar passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her devoted family. Mariann was predeceased into Heaven by her loving father and mother, Harold and Mary Robbins, her sister-in-law, Patricia Robbins, and her beloved nephew, Kevin Robbins. Mariann was born on April 4, 1942 in the Bronx, New York. In her early life, Mariann was a nun in the Order of The Religious of The Sacred Heart of Mary for ten and a half years. After leaving the convent, Mariann taught Catholic school in the Bronx and in 1975 married her husband of nearly 38 years, Monroe Kiar.
Mariann moved to Florida to be with her husband, Monroe. Mariann taught in a public elementary school and in 1984 was asked by the Reverend Gabriel O'Reilly to start St. David Catholic School. Mariann served as St. David’s founding principal for 26 years before retiring. Mariann was extremely proud of her St. David Catholic Church family and of the faculty and students at St. David Catholic School. Mariann constantly strived for educational excellence and in 1994 was awarded, on behalf of St. David Catholic School, the Blue Ribbon School of Excellence Award by President William Jefferson Clinton in the Rose Garden at the White House.
Mariann is survived by her husband Monroe Kiar, her three children, Casey Kiar Lee (Scott Lee), Martin David Kiar (Kelly Kiar), Marc Daniel Kiar (Jennifer Kiar) and her four grandchildren, Taylor Lee, Tyler Lee, Brianne Kiar and Camryn Kiar, as well as her three brothers, Harold (Linda), Gerald (JoAnn), and Donald (Mary), and many loving nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Wednesday, April 2, 2014 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Forest Lawn South Funeral Home, 2401 Davie Road, Davie, Florida 33317. Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 3rd at 2 p.m. at St. David Catholic Church, 3900 South University Drive, Davie, Florida 33328, followed by internment at Forest Lawn South Cemetery.
