Robert Waldo Howard, 79, died Wednesday, November 22, 2017 at his home. He leaves behind his wife of 47 years, Agatha Howard; his son, Robert C. Howard, wife Tammy Howard; his daughter, Kimberly Eichner, husband David Eichner; five grandchildren Alison, Madison, Elizabeth, Nicholas and Emily; two brothers, John and Clinton Howard.
Robert was very proudly born at Broward General Hospital to the parents of Hoke and Katie Howard and raised in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. In his early years, Robert earned the nickname “Bobby” from his friends. Bobby enjoyed swimming and fishing at the local bridges where his father worked. He was an accomplished swimmer in his youth and was inducted into the International Swimming Hall of Fame.
He proudly served in the U.S. Air Force during the 1950’s.
As an adult, Bobby found himself taking his love of swimming to a career level as an underwater marine diver for Powell Brothers Construction Company and also became an excellent crane operator, a skill he learned from his Uncle Albert. Bobby often loved to share stories and talk about the different kinds of cranes he could operate.
While working for Powell Brothers, Bobby’s work would take him to Bimini, Bahamas to work on the construction of Blue Waters Marina where he then met his wife, Agatha. They married on August 27,1971 at Wesley United Methodist Church.
In his years of retirement, Bobby loved nothing more than to spend time with his grandchildren and share his passion for computer games, with his favorite being World of War Craft. He enjoyed winning as many stuffed toys as possible from arcade crane machines, proving he truly was a crane master.
