

He was born in Cheektowaga, New York, the son of the late Thomas Broad and Dorothy Morlock. He graduated from Kensington High School and the University of Buffalo, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Chemistry.
Tom was a distinguished veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving with Company K, 9th Infantry Regiment. He was awarded the Purple Heart and the Korean Service Medal with one bronze star, as well as a being a life member of the Disabled American Veterans. In 2018, Tom was immensely proud to have his service in Korea acknowledged with an Honor Flight.
After his service in Korea, he worked as a chemist in Western New York for approximately 20 years before becoming a residential appraiser with Northeastern Appraisals, Inc. of Buffalo, NY.
Tom lived in the Western New York area until 1989 when he and his wife, Vicki, moved to Titusville, Florida, where he worked as a residential appraiser. They moved to Hendersonville, North Carolina in 1998 where they became active members of St. James Episcopal Church, where he was active in Cursillo, a volunteer at the Thursday Thrift Shop, and served as Verger and coordinator of lay ministers.
Throughout Tom’s life he volunteered with the Boy Scouts, acting as Scout Master for several troops. He also enjoyed round and square dancing with Southern Lights of Hendersonville, NC and the Skylarks of Asheville, NC. Tom and Vicki were happily married for 59 years, until her sudden death in 2009.
Tom found love once again and married Gail Lacagnin, whom he met at St. James Episcopal Church, and they returned to Florida in 2018. To the end Tom continued to learn and grow with the changes of the world around him, and he was considered a gentle soul by all who knew him. He will be greatly missed.
Tom is survived by his wife Gail (nee Hosinger) Lacagnin Broad; children Thomas (Susan) Broad, the late Kevin (Kathy) Broad, Barbara (John) Russo, Brian (Brenda) Broad, Todd (late Kerri) Broad; he was brother of William (Marilyn) Broad, late Allan (Patricia) Broad, late Dorthea (late William) Evens, and the late Noreen (late Herman) Bauer; and he was husband to the late Mabel “Vicki” Broad (nee Pontius). Tom and Vicki had eleven grandchildren, Anthony, Audrianna, Ashley, Amanda, Christopher, Kyle, Brandon, Arcadian, Arianna, Angelina, and Aidan. They also had four great-grandchildren, John, Addison, Annorah, Makaria.
A service of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, July 7, 2025, at St. James Episcopal Church in Hendersonville, North Carolina, with interment in the St. James Memorial Garden.
