Willie G. Franklin

Billy grew up in Opa Locka and attended Dade County Public schools in that area. Upon graduating from Norland high school in 1972, he attended Norfolk State University in Norfolk, Virginia and later, Miami Dade College.

In 1978 he married Mary Cunningham of Delray Beach, Florida. To this union a son Christopher and daughter, Jasmine were born.

Billy began his working career with Union 76 as a driver. He later worked as a “big rig” driver for Consolidated Freight, Rodeway and YRC, formerly Yellow Freight. He also worked in the movie industry as a set driver and escort driver to the stars. He was fortunate to have worked on the set of the movies, “Bad Boys”, “The Fast and Furious” and “The Glades”. Early in his career, he was affectionately given the nickname, “Tiny” by his co-workers, which was just the opposite of his imposing 6’7 stature.

Billy was a giving and kind person. If you were in need, he was there to offer his help in any way needed. He also loved a good debate and he always tried to convince you to take his side.

He leaves to cherish his memory; wife, Mary Franklin; son, Christopher Franklin (Tina); daughter, Jasmine Franklin; grandson, Kanai Franklin; sister, Juanita Franklin; aunts, Mary Hammond of Columbia, SC; Catherine Carr of Sumter, SC; uncles, Robert Carr of Sumter, SC; William Young of Beaufort, SC; In-laws, Henry Styles, Yancey Styles (Paula), Janice Styles, William Styles (Renee), Kenny Styles (Faye), Inez Williams (Matt), Al Styles (Trina), Mitch Walden (Debra) and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A visitation for Willie will be held Friday, April 29, 2022 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Forest Lawn Funeral Home South, 2401 Southwest 64th Avenue, Davie, Florida 33317. A funeral service will occur Saturday, April 30, 2022 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at The Fountain Church, 4601 NW 167th Street, Miami Gardens, Florida 33055.

Willie will be dearly missed.
