

Dorothy is predeceased by her parents, William and Ethel Louis Hunt; her husband, Charles Barnhill; her son, Larry Barnhill and her stepson Jimmy Carney; and her brothers, Thomas Vincent, Cyril, and Edmund Kennedy.
Dorothy is survived by her children, Linda Philander, Claudia Barnhill Jones, Shakti Barnhill, Charles Barnhill, Christene Barnhill, and her stepson Will Earl Carney; over 30 grandchildren, over 20 great grandchildren, and over 12 great great grandchildren. Dorothy is also survived by her nieces, Yvonne Carrol and Barbara Haynes and many more family members and beloved friends.
Dorothy had a zest for life and a heart for helping others. She worked as an administrative specialist with the IRS, she worked with the elderly at the department of social services in Florida, she even spent time working at a candy factor, and travel company. Dorothy touched many lives through her various jobs and her family connections. She was known for her determination, spicy personality, but especially for her big heart.
Dorothy also had a passion for art and beauty. She created beauty and shared it with the world and those she loved by playing the piano, guitar, writing poetry, and painting and drawing.
Dorothy was a devout Protestant and a faithful member of First Assembly of God in Fort Myers, Florida. Dorothy took refuge in the Lord and committed her life and her family to the Lord. Dorothy was not only loved by her family and those she met, but she is now and forever a beloved daughter of the king.
A visitation for Dorothy will be held Monday, January 8, 2024, from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at Hodges Funeral Home at Lee Memorial Park. A funeral service will occur Monday, January 8, 2024, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM. A graveside service will occur Monday, January 8, 2024, at 2:00PM.
