Edward Anthony Sowinski Jr.

Edward A. Sowinski of Fort Myers, Florida passed away peacefully July 9, 2016. 'Junior' was born on May 6, 1933 to Edward and Sophie (Nitowski) Sowinski in Natrona, PA. He graduated from Harbrack High School in 1951, University of PA (Pittsburgh) in 1959 and Akron School of Law in 1964. As a distinguished member of the bar, Mr. Sowinski practiced in Youngstown OH and served as city prosecutor during the 1970's. He was also a proud US Navy submariner aboard the USS Sea Leopard from 1951-56. Go Navy!!

After retiring to Fort Myers, Florida in 2002, he was often seen swimming his daily laps & walking his 4 miles around Davis Lake. He dearly loved his Pittsburgh Steelers, and grew to tolerate beloved family members who tried to sneak in a Browns t-shirt. Tolerate, not condone. Always articulate, he enjoyed a healthy political argument and, on occasion, took his opinions to his local newspaper.

He is survived by his ex-wife, Peggy, and mother to his six loving daughters, Cathy Elming, Cindy Young(Bob), Linda Perry(Jacques), Marty Miller(Mitch), Stephanie Haley(Tim) and Alicia Sowinski.. He was 'Ja-Ja' to ten grandchildren: Sophia, Saylen, Ryan, Lauren, Andrew, ToriRae, Robert, Carly, SaraRose,and TD. He was fortunate enough to have four great granddaughters: Addisyn, Payton, Harper and Genneva.

Mr. Sowinski was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Arthur and Ricky, sister, Alicia and granddaughter, Celia Rae Bingham.

There are countless family members and friends who will miss his smiling face and sarcastic wit. There will be an empty seat for him at the Steelers' club and many a toasts raised to him and his daughter, Linda-both die-hard fans, rarely missing a game, either on TV or in person. Our 'crying towels' are being used just now for him.

Special thanks to friend, Eric Striker, for whom Dad always had a cold beer in the fridge and never ending life story. Also, his personal caregivers Tammy and Tina who shared the care during the last few months with his daughter Linda.

Goodbye, Daddy, we love you! Say hi to Ricky!!!
