

Irene M. Day, a beloved resident of Lehigh Acres, Florida, passed away on April 10, 2026. Born on August 30, 1925, in Wesley, Iowa, Irene’s early years were spent in the small town of Wesley, Kossuth County. Her remarkable talent for spelling was evident when she emerged as a champion in the Des Moines Register and Tribune spelling bee in April 1939. On July 8, 1944, Irene married Lee Day, and dedicated her life to their family and faith. Irene was a true homemaker, infusing every aspect of her life with warmth and love. She created a nurturing and welcoming home for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, becoming the heart of the family. She was a woman who had seen war, loss, and trauma, but refused to let that define her. She handled her deep pain with grace and quiet dignity. Irene was a devoted member of Saint Raphael Catholic Church in Lehigh Acres, Florida. She is preceded to heaven by five of her siblings -Laurence, Clarence, Phillip, Shirley (Harms), Gladys (Trenary), and her husband - Lee Day, and youngest son - Dennis Day. Irene is survived by her sister- Bernice Goetz, and Irene’s two surviving children oldest son - Larry Day and only daughter - Connie (Davidson). Grandchildren and great grandchildren.
