Our loving mom, Joan Pigott Porter, left this world at age 79 on April 3, 2022 to meet her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and to walk the streets of gold with her husband, Jimmy, who predeceased her 8 months ago.
She is survived by her children: J. Frank (Lisa) Porter and Angel Null; grandchildren, Steven (Rachel) Porter, Jordan Porter, Austin Null and Brendan Null; great grandson, Daniel Porter; siblings: Frances (Darrell) Coleman, Ralph (Valerie) Pigott and Harvey (Pam) Pigott; and her brother-in-law, Sam Porter.
Mom lived her entire life in Fort Myers except for two years in Tampa when she went to USF to obtain her BA in Education. Upon graduation she began her 35 years of teaching at Tice Elementary. In addition to teaching full-time, she was elected to the Fort Myers City Council in 1980 and served until 1994. Mom’s greatest professional accomplishment was the creation of Centennial Park, which was her idea.
Visitation will be held at Hodges Funeral Home 12777 State Road 82 on Friday, April 8th from 10 am until the time of the funeral service at 11 am. Reverend Tim McDaniel of North Fort Myers Faith Assembly of God Church will officiate. Interment will follow in Fort Myers Memorial Gardens 1589 Colonial Blvd. Fort Myers, FL 33907.
